Ant-Man and The Wasp actress Abby Ryder Fortson, who plays Cassie Lang, the daughter of Scott Lang a.k.a Ant-Man, teased huge plans for the character moving forward in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
At the world premiere for Ant-Man and The Wasp, Fortson answered a question about whether Cassie wants to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a superhero.
“Yes, I think so. I think in this movie she really shows that she’s really interested in becoming a superhero. In the last movie, she doesn’t really wrap her head around it, so in this movie, she really wants to fight with her dad.”
That superhero would most likely be Stature given that’s who Cassie Lang becomes in the comics. In the comics, she gains her powers by stealing Pym particles and her ability to change size appears to be linked to her emotional state. Anger causes her to grow and guilt to shrink.
Statue has been on a number of Marvel teams including the Young Avengers, Ultimates, The Initiative, and A-Force.
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige also hinted that there is a big possibility Fortson could become Statue and be included in a Power Pack or Young Avengers lineup to build on the success of Marvel TV’s Cloak and Dagger and Runaways.
“Well…sure. And both of those you just mentioned we talked about for a long time and they went over to be successful TV shows. We’ve always been fans of Power Pack and figuring that out. And yes. So…where and when we would see the evolution of that? I don’t know. And certainly – taking our cue from the comics as we always do – that’s why we wanted Cassie, a very young Cassie in this movie, to be inspired by her father. Just planting seeds.”
Given that Feige has promised Marvel Studios still has 20 movies in development following Avengers 4, it’s not out of the question that we could see Fortson’s Cassie Lang become the superhero Stature.
Would you want to see Fortson’s Cassie Lang become Stature sometime in the future?
