Patty Jenkins Reveals First Look at Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah for Wonder Woman 1984!

Cheetah

Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot, and Chris Pine have been busy filming Wonder Woman: 1984. We’ve gotten multiple leaked set videos showing Wonder Woman’s incredible speed, a tease of what we think is the Invisible Jet, and even Chris Pine just dancing with some fans.

What we hadn’t seen yet was the villain of the film, Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah. Well, thanks to director Patty Jenkins we now have our first look at Wiig’s Cheetah who will be going by the name of Barbara Minerva in the film.

Take a look:

The name confirms which version of Cheetah, Jenkins and DC Films would be adapting namely the most recent incarnation of Barbara Ann Minerva. Previous version of Cheetah included Priscilla Rich, Deborah Domaine, and Sebastian Ballesteros.

Barbara Ann Minerva’s origin sees her as a British archaeologist who will do anything to secure an artifact. However, during a trip to the African jungle in search of the lost city of the Urzkartagan tribe, she is betrayed by her guides and attacked by the Urzkartagans. Fortunately, she escapes and happens upon the city as they perform a ritual to the god Urzkargata which grants immortal life as well as powers borne from the Cheetah god.

Minerva demands the ritual be performed on her. She murders her colleague Dr. Leavens as a sacrifice to the god and drinks his blood. The Urzkartaga priestess known as Chuma performs the rest of the ritual and turns Barbara Ann Minerva into Cheetah.

The photo shown above looks like Barbra will definitely have an interest in archaeology or at least wildlife as she appears to be exploring some kind of museum filled with animals on display.

What do you make of this first look at Kristen Wiig’s Barbara Minerva? How do you think she will become Cheetah? Will they follow the comic origin or will they create their own origin for the character?

Wonder Woman 1984 is expected to hit theaters on November 1, 2019.
