Superman and Mission Impossible: Fallout actor Henry Cavill recently was quite candid about the #MeToo movement and how it’s affected his current dating life. The actor recently became single after splitting with his ex-girlfriend and stuntwoman Lucy Cork. The comments received a pretty big backlash from many in the #MeToo movement and Cavill caught wind of it.

In a statement to Page Six, Cavill apologized for his comments:

“Having seen the reaction to an article in particular about my feelings on dating and the #metoo movement, I just wanted to apologize for any confusion and misunderstanding that this may have created. Insensitivity was absolutely not my intention. In light of this I would just like to clarify and confirm to all that I have always and will continue to hold women in the highest of regard, no matter the type of relationship, whether it be friendship, professional, or a significant other.”

He continued:

“Never would I intend to disrespect in any way, shape or form. This experience has taught me a valuable lesson as to the context and the nuance of editorial liberties. I look forward to clarifying my position in the future towards a subject that is so vitally important and in which I wholeheartedly support.”

What I find really interesting about this apology is he specifically points out he learned a “valuable lesson as to the context and nuance of editorial liberties.” I wonder if the original GQ Australia article took something out of context or if he’s referring to the Daily Mail article whose headline read: ‘I think a woman should be wooed and chased’: Henry Cavill admits he is hesitant to flirt because he may be ‘called a rapist or something’ in the wake of the #MeToo Movement.’

What do you make of Cavill’s apology? Should he have apologized?
