DC Films Unveils First Aquaman Movie Poster – Confirms Trailer Release Date!

Aquaman

DC Films released their first official poster for their upcoming Aquaman film. The poster includes the tag line “Home is Calling” and features Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry with his quindent in hand as he crouches upon a rock. In the background there are numerous aquatic life forms from Orca whales to Great White Sharks. There are even turtles, Hammerhead sharks, and some kind of Manta Ray. If you look closely at the back and to the right you can make out what appears to be some kind of vessel that has a number of lights lit up. It’s possible it could be a building rather than a vessel. Just below it you can also make out some architecture from some ruins. And to the left of the ship/building there also looks to be some kind of portal or doorway that leads to a structure that shoots high into the water above.

Take a look:

The poster also confirms that a trailer for Aquaman will drop this Saturday. Director James Wan previously revealed a first look at the trailer which shows an Atlantean that appears to be Aquaman or his father Atlan controlling the oceans with a wave of his trident as two large humpback whales leap into the sky as waves come crashing down. The image is very reminiscent of a panel from Justice League #4 during the New 52 publishing line.

In fact, producer Peter Safran spoke to ComicBook.com and confirmed the New 52’s influence on the film:

“I think that the New 52 version of Aquaman was definitely our touchstone and our starting point. And even though the film is not a direct adaptation of that, that was certainly, in terms of his origin, who he is; that Tom Curry is his father and Atlanna is his mother, who Orm is, etcetera. That all comes from the New 52. And, there are certainly creature elements from it, from the Trench. So, that was our biggest influence.”

Aquaman is expected to hit theaters on December 21, 2018. How excited are you for Aquaman? What other Easter eggs do you see in this poster that I missed?
