The First Godzilla: King of the Monsters Trailer Released at San Diego Comic-Con!

Warner Bros. Hall H is the talk of the town right now. They’ve dropped their Shazam! trailer and Aquaman trailer! But they also revealed their first Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Take a look:

The first half of the trailer is packed to the brim with exposition as Vera Farmiga’s Dr. Emma Russell explains her theory for why the creatures like Godzilla have returned. She reasons that humanity is an infection that is destroying the Earth. In order to stop the infection, Earth has created a fever with the original Titans. Her goal is to discover all of the Titans in order to ensure life is preserved on the planet.

While Farmiga’s Russell explains this theory, we see multiple clips of a dust storm, although I have a feeling it’s actually being caused by Godzilla foe, Rodan. There’s also shots of Mothra and King Ghidorah.

What’s really interesting is that we see a clip of Millie Bobby Brown’s Madison Russell, the daughter of Emma Russell, appears to call her mother a monster. Her mother simply replies, “I’m sorry.”

We know from some previous interviews, that Dr. Emma Russell and Madison Russell are allegedly kidnapped by a mysterious organization who is trying to use Dr. Emma Russell’s research for their own advantage. Based on this trailer, I would bet that the kidnapping might have actually been faked and Dr. Emma Russell is working with this organization voluntarily. It would provide a unique twist and create some good human drama. I wouldn’t be surprised if that Russell’s main goal is to work with some of the more sinister organizations to increase this organizations’ power.

As for the rest of the trailer we do get a bunch of shots of the monsters. We get to see Godzilla issue his call to arms as he screams with his atomic breath. We also get to see the type of destruction they can cause as Washington, D.C. is in ruins. And by the end of the trailer it looks like Godzilla is actually working with the military or they are cooperating with him.

The trailer definitely has a very dramatic almost operatic feel to it. It works well with a Godzilla movie. I’m looking forward to see more of this one!

Godzilla: King of the Monsters
