IDW Publishing’s Jonathan H. Gray Calls Comic Fans “Racists, Homophobes, Xenophobes, and Nazis”

Jonathan Grey

IDW Publishing’s Sonic the Hedgehog cover artist Jonathan H. Gray decided this morning was a good morning to call comic book fans “racists, homophobes, xenophobes, and Nazis.”

Gray is currently doing cover art for IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog, but he’s been attached to Sonic since the intellectual property was at Archie Comics where he provided covers for Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Universe. He also provided off panel scripts for Sonic the Hedgegog as well as interior pencils for Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Universe, and Sonic Boom. He also served as an assistant editor for Sonic Boom.

He begins by advocating for chain blocking, which if you are unfamiliar with the term and strategy involves targeting specific users and using a program to block every single one of that person’s Twitter followers. However, he quickly begins to target comic book fans specifically Diversity & Comics and his followers. He claims that “Diversity in Comics (sp?)… is always at the center of the twitter comics hate parade.”

But he doesn’t stop there. He then refers to comic fans and specifically those who support ComicsGate as “racists, homophobes, xenophobes, and nazis.”

Gray obviously didn’t watch Ethan Van Sciver’s reveal on who the real leader of ComicsGate is, if he did he might have a different take.

This is also the latest in a string of people at IDW who have decided to attack and insult comic book fans. Most notably Aubrey Sitterson, who was writing a G.I. JOE book at the publisher, decided to insult those who were remembering and honoring those who died during the terrorist attacks on New York City, Washington D.C., and United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001.

This would be followed up by IDW Publishing’s Editorial Director of Graphic Novels & Collections Justin Eisinger who threatened to kill President Donald Trump and threatened violence against his supporters.

It appears to be a pattern from those who work at IDW Publishing to insult not only their current customers, but their potential customers as well.

YouTuber That Umbrella Guy has advocated for consumers to contact Hasbro who licenses a number of their products to IDW Publishing including Transformers and G.I. JOE. I wouldn’t be surprised if he would advocate the same position for Sega which licenses Sonic to IDW Publishing.

Are you surprised by Gray’s comments?
