REPORT: Warner Bros. And Others Interested in Hiring James Gunn

A new report indicates that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is a hot commodity in Hollywood circles after he was fired from Disney and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after a number of sickening Tweets resurfaced involving pedophilia and child rape. Gunn was also allegedly under investigation by the FBI for possessing child pornography.

This new report from The Hollywood Reporter (THR) specifically mentions that Warner Bros. is involved in acquiring Gunn’s services. Warner Bros. is the studio behind DC Entertainment including recent films like Justice League, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Batman v. Superman.

The report quoted an anonymous studio executive, “I’d work with him in a heartbeat.” Another executive told them, “Most people feel his comments were coming out of his brand of comedy. Having an inappropriate sense of humor shouldn’t be a crime.” Another anonymous executive told them, “I’ve been advised that we can’t bring anything to him until the Disney matter is 100 percent resolved.”

And it appears those matters with Disney might not be resolved for awhile. THR reports, “Gunn, represented by UTA and attorney Andrew Hurwitz, remains locked in complicated negotiations with Disney over his exit settlement.” Their sources report that Gunn didn’t breach his contract because the Tweets were made years ago.

It appears Disney might have to pay out Gunn his full contract whether or not he directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. THR reports that Gunn could haul in $7 to $10 million if not higher for the film.

But they even report that Gunn might even be able to return to Disney and Marvel Studios. They note that two sources told them he might be able to develop or even direct another Marvel movie. A separate source told them, “An end-all verdict hasn’t been issued and conversations with Marvel are still ongoing.”

It still remains rather unclear what exactly is going to happen with James Gunn. Nothing official from Disney has been released since they announced he was fired. The Guardians of the Galaxy cast are hoping Gunn will return. Chris Pratt lobbied for his return alongside an open letter the cast members signed. Dave Bautista has been the most outspoken even threatening to quit Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 if James Gunn’s script is not used.
