Rumor: Warner Bros’ “The Flash” Film Will Start Shooting in Early 2019!

The Fastest Man Alive Isn’t Taking His Time

The Flash film has been “in the making” for a while now. Several directors have come and gone while the DC Universe has undergone numerous changes. Now, John Francis Daley and Jonathon Goldstein will write and direct the film for Warner Brothers. In part thanks to the success of their film Date Night. Ezra Miller’s comedic talents was one of the highlights of Justice League, so it’s great to see him find a team that will help with make things hilarious. Now, a new rumor suggests that their collaboration is quickly making its way to an early 2019 production start.

The rumor comes from Discussing Film who tweet about a possible February 5th start date in Atlanta.

Looks like the film could be coming sooner than anyone thought. The DC Universe is already looking to up the humor ante with Shazam, and is keeping that up with The Flash. While it’s unknown if Kiersey Clemens will remain in her role as Iris West, chances are Billy Crudup will stay on as Henry Allen. Possibly more than any other, it’s a great time to be a DC fan.

But this is just speculation, of course. It’s not like one of the actual creators of the film chimed in a while back and hinted at a possible release date. Or…

Coming in 2020?

We decided to do some digging and discovered that on June 23rd, John Francis Daley was a little bored. So he took to Twitter to answer some fan questions. As you can imagine, the discussion quickly went to Daley’s next film. While he didn’t mention the title, he did mention a release date.

So, if that film is The Flash, that absolutely corroborates the initial story about the film’s production start date. For a visual effects-heavy film like The Flash, shooting a year and change before the expected release date is par for the course.

For a while, it was rumored that the The Flash film would actually depict the famous “Flashpoint” storyline. That storyline essentially dismantles the current DC Universe and reveals other potential worlds and superheroes. That story has now gone by the wayside for a more Flash-centric origin story. This news came from Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who was most likely going to be our “Flashpoint” Batman. It’s sad to see that idea get canned or delayed, but it’s important that DC establish its current heroes. Justice League did contain small origins for Ray Fisher’s Cyborg and Ezra Miller’s Flash. But these are literally the most famous comic characters of all time. They deserve a film all to themselves, and it sounds like Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen is finally getting one.

“If all goes well”, John Francis Daley and Jonathon Goldtstein will deliver DC’s first feature length The Flash film sometime in 2020.
