The Sounds of a Superhero

Hans Zimmer is one of the most famous film score composers of the modern day. He has the kind of talent who can deftly score a film like Kung Fu Panda and a film like The Dark Knight. The German film score composer has been one of DC’s greatest assets. Providing the incredible score for [easyazon_link identifier=”B00UGQJQSK” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″ cart=”n”]The Dark Knight trilogy[/easyazon_link] as well as Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Powerful themes are his forte. Unfortunately, the composer did not compose the score for Justice League. Perhaps he knew something no one else did. Now the incredible musician is returning to the comic world. He is set to score Wonder Woman: 1984 for Patty Jenkins!

After a previously announced retirement from superhero films, Hans Zimmer announced an exciting return. He will score Wonder Woman: 1984 as well as X-Men: Dark Phoenix. While both titles are exciting, it’s the former that should elate comic fans around the world. Zimmer has been creating some of the best scores in the last few years, all for DC superhero films. While the talented Rupert Gregson-Williams scored the first Wonder Woman film, it was Zimmer who first put his mark on the character.

A Leit Motif

Hans Zimmer’s work can send a jolt of electricity up anyone’s spine. To see his name appear next to any film should make film-goers happy. His themes are always memorable and exhilarating and his work is always rhythmic and upbeat. His leitmotifs, recurring themes given to particular characters or events in a film, are especially striking. He’s been teaming with Junkie XL for his last couple of outings which has helped elevate his work even further toward electric bliss. It’s great to see him rejoining DC for another superhero film. He is also composing the score for the next X-Men film, but he’s been an asset to DC for years. He’s created some of the most iconic film music of the 21st century with Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder.

It should come as no surprise that Zimmer himself is actually a talented musician. He went on tour and performed altered versions of his film scores as well as original works. Check out his live-performance-re-mix of the Man of Steel and Wonder Woman themes!

Junkie XL hasn’t been named yet, so it’s unclear if Wonder Woman: 1984 will be another team collaboration. It would certainly be nice to get the gang back together, but Zimmer is a more than capable composer on his own. He’s brilliant. Having his name added to Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s next superhero film adds even more excitement to the hype-train. DC has been making great decisions lately, let’s hope they keep it up.
