Disney and Marvel Studios’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is reportedly on hold after Disney fired James Gunn due to a number of Tweets involving pedophilia, child rape, and molestation as well as a connection to a convicted pedophile.

The report from The Hollywood Reporter indicates that crewmembers who were in the early stages of preproduction are being let go.

One of THR’s sources said, “The timelines has been pushed out.” However, another described that Disney was “regrouping” after they fired Gunn.

The film was expected to go into preproduction this fall with principal photography beginning sometime this winter, most likely in January or February.

However, with no director on board, it’s more than likely Disney is beginning that search. The report indicates that [easyazon_link identifier=”B07886H8TF” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Thor: Ragnarok[/easyazon_link] director Taika Waititi could be a top choice since he recently had a meeting with Marvel Studios. However, details of the meeting have not been unveiled, so it’s quite possible he could have been discussing a fourth Thor movie which both he and star Chris Hemsworth were keen on doing following the box office success of Thor: Ragnarok.

This reported hold on the film comes after Disney made it clear they would not be rehiring James Gunn despite the cast signing an open letter in support of director James Gunn.

Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt had made it clear that he wanted to see James Gunn reinstated as director when the cast unveiled their open letter. He tempered that stance after Disney said they would not rehire Gunn. He would tell the Associated Press:

“It’s not an easy time. We all love James and he’s a good friend of ours, but we also really love playing the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s a complicated situation for everybody. And you know, we just want to move forward and do what’s right and be the best people we can be.”

What do you think? Is Disney taking a slow and careful approach with Guardians so as not to ruin a successful trilogy? Or is this just a move closer to shutting the door on the Guardians of the Galaxy’s third movie?
