Brand New Godzilla Manga Gets Release Date!

Godzilla

The team behind Netflix’s popular Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters anime announced a brand new manga companion for the series. The manga will be available on November 2, 2018.

Take a look at the announcement as well as the cover art.

Using Twitter’s translator, the announcement roughly reads that Godzilla Planet of the Monsters will receive a manga adaptation that will be available on the manga apps Shonen Jump and Z.

The manga will feature exclusive backstories on some of the anime’s most popular characters as well as never before seen battles.

The manga is done by Youth Kurahashi, who is known for his work on Summer Hero. According to ComicBook.com, the manga was originally supposed to debut back in March. However, the anime itself was delayed most likely pushing back the release date of the manga adaptation as well.

If your a fan of the anime, you will notice the artwork is very different from the anime series. This artwork is much rougher than the cleaner 3D animation used on the Netflix series. Not only is it rougher, but it lends to a darker tone as well.

It’s unclear how much of the anime the manga will adapt. The anime is actually a trilogy of films produced by Toho Animation, the first of which was titled Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters. The second was titled Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle that was released on Netlfix in May of this year. The third film, Godzilla: The Planet Eater is scheduled to release on November 9, 2018. It’s more than likely, this manga will only adapt the first film.

The trilogy follows the rise of Godzilla and Earth’s fight against the giant lizard. However, Godzilla is much too powerful and forces the human race and their allies to flee the planet ceding it to Godzilla. After years searching for a new home, humanity returns to Earth to reclaim their planet, but Godzilla won’t go silently into the dark.
