Get Your First Look at DC Comics’ Monitor for The CW’s Upcoming Elseworlds Crossover

DC Comics and The CW revealed their first look at the Monitor who is expected to play a major role in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover, Elseworlds.

Take a look:

The Monitor or Mar-Novu will be played by Designated Survivor’s LaMonica Garrett. The character is described as “an extraterrestrial being of infinite power.”

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash, talked about how imposing the character is:

“LaMonica was ridiculous, like seeing him in his suit, he’s just a monster. He’s like an absolute unit. He doesn’t have to do a lot with his performance. He’s so intimidating with just these subtleties, so that’s dope.”

The character was originally created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez. He played a pivotal role in DC’s [easyazon_link identifier=”1401258417″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Crisis on Infinite Earths[/easyazon_link]. He and his kind would go on to play a key role in Infinite Crisis as well as Final Crisis.

The Monitor’s Role in Elseworlds

It’s unclear what role The Monitor will play in Elseworlds, but it definitely appears there is some universal destruction happening as you can see planets blowing up in the background. Given the destruction of the planets and the introduction of the Monitor, it’s possible they could be introducing the Anti-Monitor as well.

Anti-Monitor

The Monitor was known to test superheroes and supervillains in order to discover which ones might be able to help him defeat the Anti-Monitor and stop his constant destruction and expansion of the antimatter universe. In fact, he even recruited a team to help him defend a number of devices in order for him to merge the surviving Earths into one in an attempt to stymie the Anti-Monitor.

Elseworlds

Elseworlds will be jammed pack. The crossover event is expected to see the debut of Ruby Rose as Batwoman. Rose won’t be the only one joining the Arrowverse. Elizabeth Tulloch has been cast as Lois Lane and will also be making her debut.

Set photos have also indicated that Tyler Hochlein’s Superman will be wearing a black suit. Constantine’s Jeremy Davis will also return as Dr. John Deegan. And John Wesley Shipp returns to his role as The Flash.

But maybe the oddest thing the crossover will include is some kind of swap between The Flash and Arrow. A poster for the event shows The Flash actor Grant Gustin dressed up as Oliver Queen as the Arrow and Arrow’s Stephen Amell dressed up as The Flash aka Barry Allen.

What do you think about The Monitor’s costume design? What role do you think he will play in the crossover? What are you expecting from Elseworlds?
