Star Wars Announces New Live-Action Series Starring Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor

Disney and Star Wars announced a brand new live-action series that will see Diego Luna reprise his role as Cassian Andor.

The series is expected to go into production next year and will take place as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It will focus on Luna’s Andor is expected to be a “rousing spy thriller.” It will see Cassian Andor take on a number of espionage missions in order to restore hope to the galaxy as the Empire begins exerting it’s iron will and control.

Luna is excited about the opportunity to return to Star Wars, “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

The series will arrive on the new Disney streaming service, which will be called Disney+. No release date for the series was announced.

Speculation and Cameos

With the confirmation of a Rogue One prequel this opens up a ton of possibilities for cameos. The most obvious cameo would be Andor’s sidekick and maybe the most popular robot in the Star Wars universe outside of R2-D2, K2-SO.

While K2-SO is the most logical character to show up in the prequel, there’s room for plenty of others. I can imagine a number of the cast from the animated series Star Wars Rebels making appearances. We could see Ezra Bridger, Ahsoka Tano, Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, Zeb Orrelios, and more. Maybe one of the most logical people to appear in this show would be Agent Kallus. Given Kallus was a Rebel agent, it would make sense that he would also be in contact with someone like Andor and aid him on his missions.

Potential Villains

I doubt we will see any prominent villains such as Tarkin, Vader, or the Emperor show up. It’s more likely we will see a new villain introduced similar to Krennic. A man or woman who is a little lower on the totem pole, but is attempting to climb the ladder and is tasked with tracking down Andor and ensuring his Rebel activities are ended for good.

What might make this show really interesting is if they create a tie-in with the criminal underworld. Most fans know of the Hutts, but there are plenty of other colorful gangsters and criminal syndicates populating the Star Wars universe. It would be really interesting if they included the Black Sun and Darth Maul’s Shadow Collective.

What are you expecting from this show? Are you interested in a pre-Rogue One era live-action show starring Cassian Andor? Or would you liked to have seen something else?
