Pokemon Go: All Meltan Research Tasks Revealed

It has now been revealed to Pokemon GO Trainers how we can obtain Meltan. As you will see though, it won’t be easy, but it looks like it’s worth it!

This event will play out similarly to what we saw with the Mew and the “A Ripple In Time” quest events to obtain Celebi. The Meltan research tasks will have players working to unlock the opportunity to catch Meltan.

The tasks as you notice start off pretty standard and are not to difficult. But as you complete the easier quests, the progressions quickly becomes more difficult and a bit more complex. This means it will allow veteran players as well as beginners to have more fun and immerse themselves fully into the game. Here is the step by step overview of the quests for the event. There are nine quests overall.

And here is a nice chart to keep around to give you a visual guide:

Unlike the previous event, this one has nine quests instead of eight tasks for players to complete. The extra quest is seemingly just a rewards bonanza for catching Meltan. As mentioned earlier the quests begin fairly easy but ramp up the difficulty as you move forward. The first three quests are pretty straightforward. Spin stops, do some great throws and participate in some gym and raid battles. But the third quest can be a bit tricky with the RNG since you have to catch a Ditto.

How to Capture Ditto

For those unfamiliar with how Ditto works in Pokemon GO, there are a few tricks to help you out. The Pokemon is rather tricky to obtain as he disguises himself as several other Pokemon found in the game.

Those Pokemon include:

  • Pidgey
  • Ratatta
  • Zubat
  • Mankey
  • Yanma
  • Hoothoot
  • Sentret
  • Zigzagoon
  • Gulpin
  • Whismur

In order to capture Ditto, you will have to click on and attempt to capture these Pokemon in the hopes one of them is really a Ditto in disguise. You can see how it works in the video below:

However, there is another way of getting a Ditto. It’s possible to obtain a Ditto encounter through a field research reward. In the recent promotion for Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu, Pokemon GO rolled out a number of new field research tasks. One of those tasks includes making an excellent throw and rewarding you with a Ditto encounter. If you are struggling to find a Ditto in the wild, this field research task might be able to help you out. Unfortunately, that field research task only lasted until November 27, 2018. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ditto shows up in a future field research task reward.

As we move to quests four through six we have to focus on catching specific Pokemon. This might be more difficult than it sounds depending on where you live. But what might be the most difficult quest will be the sixth one because it requires you to participate in 10 raids. This might be difficult as many of the raids require you to team up with other players and for those living in rural locations it can be hard to come by. Fortunately, there are lower tier raids that can be completed by yourself.

Pokemon Needed for Evolution in order to Catch Meltan

The Pokemon that you will need to further progress and give you the ability to capture Meltan are as follows:

  • Grimer
  • Magnemite
  • Drowzee
  • Scyther

If you were thinking about transferring any of those Pokemon, you might want to hold on to them in order to evolve them for the quest!

What do you think? Do these quests sound fun? And will you find yourself working tirelessly to unlock the Meltan encounter? Or will you be preparing for the possibility of PvP in Pokemon Go? How far along in the Meltan quest are you?
