Report: Marvel to Introduce the Black Knight Via the Quantum Realm?!?

A new report indicates Marvel Studios might introduce Stan Lee and Joe Maneely’s creation of the Black Knight via the Quantum Realm into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This isn’t the first report of the Black Knight showing up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Last year a report from Ain’t It Cool News stated that the Black Knight would appear alongside Captain Britain in a film directed by Guy Ritchie.

This initial report regarding the Black Knight came out around the time that we were also hearing rumors about an Eternals film being in the works. Fans were also waiting for anything regarding the upcoming Captain Marvel movie. We were also getting trolled by the Russo brothers Instagram and Twitter accounts about the Avengers 4 title.

Filming for the Captain Britain/Black Knight movie was supposed to start in November. Obviously, that didn’t happen.

That doesn’t mean the idea of Black Knight is off the table for Marvel. According to MCU Cosmic founder Jeremy Conrad, Marvel still wants the character to show up in the future and he indicates that he will show up via the Quantum Realm. It’s just a manner of when he will show up.

As you can see from Conrad’s tweet, he heavily implies that the Black Knight will be introduced via the Quantum Realm. He even shares a shot of what could be the Black Knight’s realm found within the Quantum Realm.

So along with the outlandish title of Eternals being developed, we have the peculiar character of Black Knight potentially being introduced in a future Marvel title.

How the Black Knight comes in

They already introduced the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man, and surface-level explored it in Ant-Man & the Wasp. However, Conrad points out the cities seen during Hank Pym’s descent in Ant-Man & the Wasp to find his wife may be key to introducing the Black Knight. Could he be living in one of the bubble-like cities within the Quantum Realm? Is finding him part of a larger connected universe? Can this device also introduce a litany of other lesser-known Marvel characters and a lineup of movies for the next 20 years?

Marvel Studio boss Kevin Feige already talked about the importance of the Quantum Realm:

“At the end of Ant-Man we followed Scott Lang into the Quantum Realm for the first time. We were beginning to peel back the onion that would later be completely peeled back in Doctor Strange as we go into the multiverse. So that was our little test into that. But now the Quantum Realm is a whole other territory that we can play with to tell our stories. This Quantum Realm is much larger than we ever imagined, and there are all sorts of adventures to be had at that level, which perhaps we will explore in another film.”

This could also be a potential way for Feige to introduce the Fantastic Four and the world of mutants to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Who is the Black Knight?

Black Knight was created back when Marvel Comics was still Atlas Comics in 1955. His creation in the comic books pre-dates the appearance of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers.

At first, he was a medieval knight by the name of Sir Percy of Scandia, serving the court of King Arthur and recruited by the wizard Merlin. He wields an ebony blade fashioned out of meteorite and fought against an evil knight named Mordred. He eventually gets killed when Mordred runs him through with an enchanted blade.

The second Black Knight is a descendant of the first, a professor Nathan Garret. He stumbles upon the tomb of his ancestor and the ebony blade. However, Garret’s evil tendencies made him unworthy of using the blade. Garret then becomes a villain, fashioning himself medieval weapons with modern enhancements and a genetically engineered winged horse. He embarks on a crime spree and fights against various members of the Avengers. He loses a battle with Iron Man, and falls off his winged horse to his demise. In his last moments, Garret summons his nephew Dane Whitman to his side. He reveals his identity to Dane as well as his regrets about his life of crime.

The Third Black Knight

Then the third iteration of the character in Dane Whitman was brought about. Becoming Black Knight almost immediately after Garret relinquishes the title, Whitman becomes a member of the Avengers, the Defenders, and the Heroes for Hire. His appearances somewhat spurred a solo title featuring the Black Knight hero. However, dwindling sales prompted a speedy cancellation only after five issues. He actually has the most history with the current comic books and current characters in the Marvel Universe. And it looks like the movies will adapt this version rather than the previous two.

However, all of this is just purely speculation and rumor at this point. There’s no official word from Marvel about the character.
