Avengers: Infinity War Fan Thinks He Found an Iron Man Plot Hole – The Air Force Times Has An Answer!

Avengers: Infinity War was full of action moves and some cool advanced tech from both Tony Stark and others such as the Wakanda military. But one fan believes they have found a plot hole when it comes to the latest Iron Man suit used in the film.

In a Reddit post, user nsampogne opened about a scene where Tony was trying to catch up to Spider-Man during the encounter with the Ebony Maw’s ship. Here is the entire question below:

When Tony is trying to catch up with Peter, as he is going into space on Ebony Maw & Cull Obsidian’s ship, why is the rocket carrying the Iron Spider Suit so much faster than Tony’s Mark 50 Suit? The Russo Brothers confirmed that this was the best Tony’s tech will ever get, but he didn’t equip his most advanced suit with his fastest rockets?

The point is quite clear and is easy to see in the video. Why was the Iron Spider able to meet Parker at a much easier and faster rate than Tony in his latest Iron Man armor? What’s up with the disparity in the technology between the two suits?

Tony’s Iron Man suit, the Bleeding Edge, was supposed to be the cream of the crop when it came to Iron Man suit technology. In fact, Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Production Victoria Alonso discussed the suit’s potential in [easyazon_link identifier=”1302909088″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Avengers: Infinity War – The Art of the Movie[/easyazon_link]:

“The Bleeding Edge was something that we talked about for a long time. We wanted to have something that was tighter to the body, that he could command on the go, that didn’t require him to suite up elsewhere. He could do it just by tapping the RT, and create different weapons that came from the suit itself so he could defend himself — because don’t forget, he’s never had to face someone like Thanos.”

However, that still doesn’t explain how the Iron Spider rocketed ahead of Tony’s Bleeding Edge Iron Man armor. The most logical explanation is the fact that the Iron Spider suit was launched without a man it. The suit didn’t have to worry about the man inside it and how the G-Forces would affect him.

Here is a great video from the Air Force Times that gives a basic explanation about what G-Forces are:

One user PLAAND made a solid case for this explaining that the human body can only handle so much acceleration before passing out.

But basically what you said. Because we’re talking about straight-line acceleration, and Tony is essentially in a pilot-prone position in his suit he’ll be experiencing positive longitudinal g-forces (along the length of his body in the normal direction of gravity) that means the absolute maximum sustained acceleration he can safely reach is about 9g, though this is heavily dependent on the individual, and better g resistance can’t really be trained.

But let’s say Tony can handle up to 9g in that flight configuration. His suit’s fly-by-wire is probably coded with soft limits on acceleration to prevent him from entering g-force induced loss of consciousness (G-LOC) this means that the limit on his suit’s performance in this area is him, and that in autonomous flight that same suit would probably be able to accelerate at a rate similar to what we see from the Iron Spider suit. Hardware is significantly less affected by g-force than the human body and this is a problem we see in modern fighter aircraft which can sustain g-forces in turning maneuvers much higher than their human occupants can survive and must be limited either through software, or pilot training.

It might not be a limitation of technology, but one of the human body and what it’s able to withstand when it comes to G-forces.

It might be safe to assume given Tony’s acumen for analyzing battles that he might find a way to solve this problem before he more than likely faces off against Thanos again in Avengers: Endgame.

Who knows maybe he puts Captain America in an Iron Man suit, given he’s been imbued with superhuman capabilities. It’s more than likely his body can withstand greater G-Forces.

Either way, Tony right now is in trouble and stuck in space. How do you think he will get out of that predicament?
