Marvel’s Nick Fury Actor Samuel L. Jackson Calls Trump Slogan “Trip In Memory Hell”

One of the most legendary actors of our generation, Samuel L. Jackson, described Donald Trump’s popular campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again,” as a “trip in memory hell.”
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson discussed his young life and growing up in the 1960s where he was at the center of radical politics. Jackson recalls he was an usher at Martin Luther King Jr.’s funeral in 1968, but he found himself gravitating towards the ideas of H. Rap Brown and Stokely Carmichael.
Jackson recalls, “It was easier for me to side with their ideology [than with King’s], or understand that ‘violence is as American as cherry pie,’ as Brown put it. That made sense to me, you know? Somebody hits you, you hit them back.”
He would then discuss modern politics and Donald Trump’s popular slogan “Make America Great Again.” While not used as a slogan by Bill Clinton, the phrase was used in a number of speeches during his 1992 presidential campaign. In fact, Hillary Clinton also used the phrase in an ad during the 2008 primary. President Ronald Reagan used a similar slogan, “Let’s Make America Great Again in his 1980 presidential campaign.
Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter, “When I hear ‘Make America Great Again,’ I hear something else. When I see the president and Mitch McConnell and Jeff Sessions going on with that twang, that’s a trip in memory hell. And that does anger me.”
Jackson has been quite outspoken in his criticism of President Donald Trump and Republicans over the past couple of years. In fact, Jackson admits his representatives have asked him not to Tweet for a while.
“I’ve been reported to Twitter a lot,” Jackson says with a laugh. “Whatever. But sometimes I’ll get a call from my representatives and they’ll go, ‘Can you not tweet for a while?'”
Back in June, the actor faced backlash for a Tweet many deemed homophobic where he was accused of questioning the sexuality of top Trump and Republican officials.

During the 2018 mid-term elections, Jackson found himself scooping cat litter for candidate Angie Craig of Minnesota in a campaign ad. He told viewers he was doing everything possible to help her as she kept busy with her campaign.
The star hasn’t wasted time in the new year. He supported newly elected Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib after he comments about “impreaching the motherf***** went viral.

Not only has Jackson found plenty of time to get political and do campaign ads, he’s also starring in multiple big releases this year. First up, he reprises his role as Mr. Glass in M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass on January 18th. He will then be seen opposite Brie Larson in Captain Marvel as he reprises his role as Nick Fury on March 8, 2019. Finally, Jackson will become Fury again when Avengers: Endgame comes to theaters on April 26th.
