New Rumor Indicates Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Movie Will Have Commentary on Donald Trump

The latest gossip surrounding Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie indicates the film will have a political viewpoint and commentary on Donald Trump.

According to Revenge of the Nerds, Phoenix’s Joker film “has a political bent, with some pointed commentary on Donald Trump. We’re talking ‘V for Vendetta’ style political undercurrents.”

For those unfamiliar with the [easyazon_link identifier=”140120841X” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Alan Moore graphic novel[/easyazon_link] that was adapted into a feature film starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman, the story follows Weaving’s V as he seeks to liberate the United Kingdom from it’s current police state government led by High Chancellor Adam Sutler.

V who wears a a Guy Fawkes mask performs numerous acts of terrorism including blowing up London’s main criminal court, the Old Bailey. He takes over government broadcasts and encourages his fellow citizens to rise up against the government. During his escapades, he befriends Portman’s Evey, who actually helps him evade the police hunting him down. While he continues to plan to take down the government, he begins executing individuals who were involved in his torture. Evey would also discover that the current government’s rise to power was based on a lie. It was Sutler who organized the release of a deadly bioweapon that resulted in the massacre at St Mary’s School killing 100,000 British citizens. The massacre was blamed on terrorists. The ensuing public fear allowed Sutler and his political party to be ushered into power.

Given Hollywood’s political bias and this rumor that the Joker movie will have V for Vendetta style political undertones, it’s not hard to imagine that the film will more than likely have a Donald Trump like figure who can be compared to Hitler. This isn’t the first time the Joker movie has been connected to Donald Trump. When reports indicated Alec Baldwin had originally been cast to play Thomas Wayne, The Hollywood Reporter indicated his role would be “as a cheesy and tanned businessman who is more in the mold of a 1980s Donald Trump.”

Joker Won’t Be What You Think It Is

On a slightly different note, the same report indicates that the footage from the Joker movie which includes video of a subway scene might actually be misdirection from the studio.

The report indicates the “film doesn’t feel like anything else we’ve seen in the comic book genre. Possibly ever.” Revenge of the Nerd’s source described the film as “heartbreaking,” “pitiful,” and “a tragedy.” Those are definitely interesting words to describe Batman’s most famous villain who is usually depicted as an insane and violent genius.

However, for fans of DC Comics, tragedy and the Joker aren’t unfamiliar concepts. It’s possible the film will borrow heavily from Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s The Killing Joke, which depicts a possible origin of the Joker. In that origin Joker is a down on his luck comedian, who falls into a life of crime to support him and his wife. His first real job he encounters Batman and is knocked into a vat of chemicals at ACE Chemicals. He survives the encounters, but is irrevocably turned into the Joker.

As for the style of the film, the report backs up previous ones that indicate the film will be inspired by classic films from the 70s and 80s like Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy. [easyazon_link identifier=”B01KVJ1BKW” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Taxi Driver[/easyazon_link] showcased Travis Bickle, a former U.S. Marine who deals with depression, loneliness, and isolation.
