SyFy to Develop Chucky TV Series from Original Creator Don Mancini

SyFy will partner with Chucky creator Don Mancini to adapt a television series based on the killer doll.

The Hollywood Reporter indicates the series was in hot demand and there was a “multiple-network bidding war” which saw SyFy emerge as the winner.

Mancini had hinted about a Chuck TV series back in June.

Mancini discussed the upcoming project revealing it will be a “fresh take.”

“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us.” He added, “The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”

The series will be produced at Universal Cable Productions by Mancini, the Child’s Play film producer David Kirschner, and Nick Antosca.

Antosca is excited about the project.

“I worked with Don on Hannibal and on Channel Zero for Syfy, so developing Chucky with UCP really feels like coming home.” He continued, “Syfy is the perfect place to tell the next chapter in the Chucky saga and having the original creative team lead the project will help elevate the story we are excited to tell.”

Mancini’s Chucky television series is not the only Chucky-based project in the works. MGM and Orion Pictures have a Child’s Play reboot film in the works starring Parks & Recreation’s Aubrey Plaza and directed by Lars Klevberg with a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith.

The original creative team is not part of the upcoming film remake and Mancini has been vocal in his opposition to the remake.
