Report: Bryan Singer Blackballed by Hollywood After New Allegations of Sexual Misconduct

A new report indicates the original [easyazon_link identifier=”B07MXN684H” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Bohemian Rhapsody[/easyazon_link] director and [easyazon_link identifier=”B00X6G9QG4″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]X-Men: Days of Future Past[/easyazon_link] director Bryan Singer will never work for a major Hollywood studio again following new allegations of sexual misconduct.

Page Six’s Richard Johnson reports the only studio that will work with Singer is Avi Lerner’s Millennium Films which produces The Expendables and will produce the upcoming Rambo film as well as Hellboy and Red Sonja.

Lerner defended Singer after new allegations of sexual misconduct were reported by The Atlantic.

“The over $800 million ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ has grossed, making it the highest grossing drama in film history, is testament to his remarkable vision and acumen. I know the difference between agenda driven fake news and reality, and I am very comfortable with this decision. In America people are innocent until proven guilty.”

Lerner would later clarify his statement to The Hollywood Reporter:

“I don’t want to apologize. I just want to clarify [the statement]. I think victims should be heard and this allegation should be taken very, very seriously. I just don’t agree to judge by the Twitter. I want [the accused] to be judged by the court.”

Lerner’s statements come after Singer was the subject of an article in The Atlantic, where four new individuals accused Singer of various degrees of sexual misconduct from seducing them while they were underage to rape.

Singer issued his own statement concerning the new allegations in The Atlantic:

“The last time I posted about this subject, Esquire magazine was preparing to publish an article written by a homophobic journalist who has a bizarre obsession with me dating back to 1997. After careful fact-checking and, in consideration of the lack of credible sources, Esquire chose not to publish this piece of vendetta journalism.

That didn’t stop this writer from selling it to The Atlantic. It’s sad that The Atlantic would stoop to this low standard of journalistic integrity. Again, I am forced to reiterate that this story rehashes claims from bogus lawsuits filed by a disreputable cast of individuals willing to lie for money or attention. And it is no surprise that, with Bohemian Rhapsody being an award-winning hit, this homophobic smear piece has been conveniently timed to take advantage of its success.”

Singer is no stranger to these types of allegations. Most recently he denounced the pending Esquire article in October 2018 accusing him of sexual misconduct.

Singer has also been taken to court multiple times after being accused of sexual misconduct and rape. He has never been found guilty of any kind of sexual misconduct and he was able to disprove one of the claims with hard evidence. In one instance Michael Egan, who accused Singer, actually dropped their lawsuit after Singer provided evidence he was not in the location Egan claimed he was. Egan would eventually plead guilty to securities and wire fraud in 2015.

Another of the cases filed against Singer was dismissed because it was improper and there was no legal basis for it.

Singer is currently facing a lawsuit from Cesar Sanchez-Guzman who claims he raped him in 2003.

Singer is still set to direct the upcoming Red Sonja movie. The Hollywood Reporter indicates feelings are mixed about the film moving forward with Singer as director. An alleged lawyer with an A-list roster told them:

“Avi will be able to put ‘From the director of Bohemian Rhapsody‘ on his one-sheet. That’s all that matters.”

However, an alleged Oscar-winning producer noted it could face distribution problems:

“I don’t think any domestic distributor will jump on it right now.”

Given Lerner’s statements it appears Red Sonja is still on track to be made. While Page Six indicates Singer’s career is over outside Lerner’s Millennium, it’s too early to tell if these new allegations will sink him in the rest of Hollywood.
