Ellen Page Rips Into Donald Trump and Mike Pence on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

X-Men’s Kitty Pryde actress Ellen Page ripped into President Donald Trump and more specifically Vice President Mike Pence while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Page claims that both President Donald Trump and Mike Pence promote hatred towards the LGBT community.

Page, who is set to star in Netflix’s Umbrella Academy adaptation, married her wife Emma Portner in January of last year. She specifically needled out Vice President Mike Pence over his opposition to gay marriage.

Page began by calling out the media and the way they’ve dealt with the alleged attack on Jussie Smollett.

“We have a media that’s saying it’s a debate whether or not what just happened to Jussie Smollett is a hate crime. It’s absurd. F***, There isn’t a debate.”

She then targets Donald Trump and Mike Pence.

“It feels impossible to not feel this way right now with the President and the Vice President Mike Pence who like wishes I couldn’t be married.”

Page would add, “The Vice President of America wishes I didn’t have the love with my wife. He wanted to ban that in Indiana. He believes in conversion therapy. He has hurt LGBTQ people so badly as the governor of Indiana.”

She would continue, “And I think the thing we need to know, and I hope my show Gaycation did this in terms of connecting the dots, in terms of what happened the other day to Jussie, I don’t know him personally, I sent him all of my love.”

“Connect the dots, this is what happens. If you are in a position of power and you hate people, and you want to cause suffering to them, you go through the trouble, you spend your career trying to cause suffering, what do you think is going to happen?

Kids are going to be abused, and they are going to kill themselves, and people are going to be beaten on the street.”

She would conclude, “I have traveled the world and I have met the most marginalized people you can meet. I am lucky to have this time and the privilege to say this. This needs to f****** stop.”

This isn’t the first time Page has targeted Mike Pence or a member of the Trump family with a similar message.

She called out Ivanka Trump after she posed in a photo with evangelical pastor Jim Garlow. Garlow has said gay marriage is a “demonic happening in our midst.”

Page will appear on Netflix’s Umbrella Academy which is expected to debut on the streaming network on February 15, 2019. The show is an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comic written by Gerard way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. The first limited-run series won the 2008 Eisner Award for Best Finite Series/Limited Series.

The series takes place in an alternate timeline where John F. Kennedy was never assassinated. It follows the Sir Reginald Hargreeves a.k.a The Monocle, an alien being disguised as a famous entrepreneur who adopts seven children believed to collectively be the modern-day incarnation of the Messiah. He raises them at the Umbrella Academy and prepares them to save the world. Along with Hargreeves the series features Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, Number Five, The Horror, and The White Violin. Page will play The White Violin.
