A new Birds of Prey set video appears to show actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary and Chris Messina’s Victor Zsasz chasing after Cassandra Cain played by Ella Jay Bosco.

Take a look:

As you can see in the video above, a man who appears to be a police officer picks takes Cassandra Cain by the shoulders and places her in his very outdated police car. The officer then speeds off as what appears to be Black Canary and Victor Zsasz run after the car. After the car speeds away Canary and Zsasz appear to get in an argument with each other indicating things aren’t too rosy between them.

While the chase scene is interesting, what really stands out to me is the police vehicle. While we can’t make out what city the vehicle is from, it’s definitely not a modern vehicle. That could indicate the film will be taking place in the past much like the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 film and the Joker film, which many believe to be taking place in the 80s.

Aside from the police car, it’s interesting to see Black Canary working with Victor Zsasz, a known serial killer. Given the full title of the film is Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), one can assume that it might not necessarily be about Harley Quinn separating from Joker. It’s more than likely that Quinn is being used by Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask. It’s possible the infamous Gotham crime lord from the comics also has leverage over Black Canary and uses her as a stooge to do his bidding. That could explain why Black Canary would be working with one of Gotham’s most notorious serial killers in Victor Zsasz.

However, recent set photos of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn did show a number of alterations to her tattoos specifically one tattoo now features a line through the word Puddin on her right leg. Another tattoo on her left leg has been changed to say “Pudding Cups.” Given these are additions to her tattoos from Suicide Squad, my theory about the film taking place in the past might not hold merit.

There is still the possibility given Harley Quinn and Joker’s on again off again relationship in the comics. It’s possible this might still take place during the past during a time when Harley and Joker were on the rocks before Suicide Squad.

What do you make of this new set video? Why do you think Black Canary and Victor Zsasz would be working together? Do you think the film might take place in the past?
