Ellen Page Targets Chris Pratt for Attending “Infamously Anti-LGBTQ” Chuch

Actress Ellen Page targeted Chris Pratt for attending what she describes as an “infamously anti lgbtq” church.

Page targeted Pratt after he appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote his upcoming film The Lego Movie, where he discussed his recent Bible-inspired Daniel Fast.

Pratt told Colbert about his Fast, “It’s kind of like our Lent, you know, give something up. So for 21 days I had no meat, no sugar, no alcohol, and it was actually amazing. It was really cool.”

Following discussion of his fast, Pratt talked about how his church, which he never names in the interview, actually helped him deal with the pressures of fame.

Page took issue with Chris Pratt’s church attendance and would Tweet out, “Oh. K. Um. But his church is infamously anti lgbtq so maybe address that too?”

Chris Pratt has been seen attending services at Hillsong Church according to People. The church and its pastor Brian Houston was criticized for its stance on the LGBTQ community in 2015.

Houston wrote a blog post explaining Hillsong Church’s stance on the LGBTQ community.

In the blog post Houston states he lives by his own convictions and holds to “traditional Christian thought on gay lifestyles and gay marriage.” He adds, “I do believe God’s word is clear that marriage is between a man and a woman. The writings of the apostle Paul in scripture on the subject of homosexuality are also clear, as I have mentioned in previous public statements.”

Houston would go on to declare that “Hillsong Church welcomes ALL people but does not affirm all lifestyles. Put clearly, we do not affirm a gay lifestyle and because of this we do not knowingly have actively gay people in positions of leadership, either paid or unpaid.”

He would add:

“I love and accept people on a personal level and if I lived next to a gay couple I would treat them with the same embrace I would any other neighbour because – surprise, surprise – not all my neighbours think like me. Everyone has the right to pursue happiness. I may totally disagree with you on what will bring people true happiness, and I will always teach and preach according to my personal convictions and the teachings of scripture, but I cannot make other people’s choices for them – and quite frankly, I don’t want to. That’s not my job. Even God created humanity with a free will.”

However, Vox indicated on February 6th, that Pratt attends Los Angeles’ Zoe Church with his fiancée Katherine Schwarzenegger. Christian Post also indicates that Pratt posted that he attends Zoe Church, “I read books by my Pastor, Chad Veach in Zoe Church LA. I find his book Faith Forward Future to be very helpful.”

This isn’t the first time Ellen Page has targeted individuals who are outspoken in their Christian faith. Page recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where she decided to target Vice President Mike Pence.

Page stated:

“The Vice President of America wishes I didn’t have the love with my wife. He wanted to ban that in Indiana. He believes in conversion therapy. He has hurt LGBTQ people so badly as the governor of Indiana.”

Ellen Page previously targeted Ivanka Trump for taking a photo with evangelical pastor Jim Garlow claiming that she is “perpetuating horrible suffering and preventing equality from being realized.”

Page will appear on Netflix’s Umbrella Academy which is expected to debut on the streaming network on February 15, 2019. The show is an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comic written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. The first limited-run series won the 2008 Eisner Award for Best Finite Series/Limited Series.

Chris Pratt’s The Lego Movie 2 is out in theaters now.
