The CW Casts Rachel Skarsten as Batwoman Villain ‘Alice”

The CW cast Rachel Skarsten to star opposite Ruby Rose’s Batwoman in the upcoming series from Greg Berlanti and Warner Bros. Television. Skarsten will play Alice.

Deadline describes just exactly who Alice is:

“If Batwoman had a Joker, it would be Alice, the leader of her Lewis Carroll–inspired Wonderland Gang. Swinging unpredictably between maniacal and charming, Alice has made it her mission to undermine Gotham’s sense of security.”

In the comics, Alice is Batwoman’s long lost twin, Elizabeth Kane. She believes she is Alice from Lewis Carroll’s [easyazon_link identifier=”0147515874″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland[/easyazon_link]. She would become the Religion of Crime’s leader after the death of Mannheim. The character would later undergo rehabilitation and become a hero and ally to Batwoman. The character first appeared in Detective Comics #854. She was created by Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams III.

This isn’t Skarsten’s first rodeo with DC Comics characters on The CW. The actress previously played Dinah Lance on The CW’s Birds of Prey series. She also played Queen Elizabeth on The CW’s Reign.

The Batwoman series is expected to put a focus on social justice with Batwoman being described as a character “armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind.”

Batwoman debuted in The CW’s Arrowverse during the Elseworlds Crossover.

What do you make of this casting? Do you think Rachel Skarsten can play Alice? What do you make of the idea that Alice is being compared to the Joker?
