Marvel and Hulu to Create Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K, Dazzler, and Hit-Monkey Adult Animated Shows

A new report indicates that Disney and Hulu have signed a deal to create four new adult animated series including one featuring Howard the Duck. Along with these four series, there will be a team-up special called The Offenders, much in the vein of the Netflix deal which saw Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist team-up in The Defenders.

The Howard the Duck series will be managed by comic book fan extraordinaire Kevin Smith and Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s Dave Willis. They will both executive produce alongside Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.

Smith took to Twitter to express his excitement for the project.

Willis got in on the act too.

Along with Howard the Duck, Hulu and Marvel will create Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show, Hit-Monkey, and M.O.D.O.K.

The Tigra & Dazzler Show will feature Chelsea Handler as she will executive produce and write alongside Erica Rivinoja. The series is being described as “politically progressive” by Deadline. It will see Tigra and Dazzler “try to get their superpowered heads, hands and hearts around life in the City of Angels.”

Hit-Monkey and M.O.D.O.K. will see Josh Gordon, Will Speck, Patton Oswalt, and Jordan Blum attached.

M.O.D.O.K. is described as “a supervillain with ego and family issues.” While Hit-Monkey will track ” a pissed off Japanese snow monkey who tries to take on and take down Tokyo’s crime underworld with the ghost of an American assassin by his side.”

All four of the series will crossover in The Offenders special from Jeph Loeb.

Maybe the most interesting tidbit from this announcement is the fact that one of the shows will feature an X-Men in Dazzler. It could indicate Marvel TV already had plans in motion to make use of the X-Men following their acquisition from Fox.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige previously stated last month that he hasn’t been planning anything with the X-Men:

“We’ve been told it’s looking very, very good and could happen in the first six months of next year. The notion of the characters coming back is great. It’s nice when a company that created all these characters can have access to all those characters. It’s unusual not to. But in terms of actually thinking about it and actually planning things, we haven’t started that yet.”

If Marvel TV was working on an animated television show featuring an X-Men, one has to guess that Marvel Studios is also working with the X-Men, they just are keeping it quiet.

There was no word on whether these shows would be related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but given they are coming from Marvel TV one can guess that they are not connected.

These new adult-oriented Marvel TV shows come after Donald Glover’s adult-oriented Deadpool show was canceled by Marvel TV.

Are you interested in any of these shows? Do you want to see Marvel TV branch out and compete with Adult Swim style content? The Tigra & Dazzler Show sounds like it’s definitely inspired by Space Ghost Coast to Coast or Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law.
