“Meet Shazam!” – Warner Bros. and DC Introduce The Real Captain Marvel in Fun Video!

Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment released a new video introducing fans to Billy Batson and Shazam.

In the new clip both Zachary Levi and Asher Angel who play Shazam and Billy Batson reveal just who Batson and Shazam are. Levi starts, “Billy is a foster kid, who has been in and out of foster homes. He’s a really good kid, who wants the best, who sticks up for other kids. And because he is pure of heart, he is transported to this wizard who endows him with this power of SHAZAM!”

Asher Angel then chimes in, “He has this power of just saying one word and turning into a superhero. At first he goes to see his friend Freddy.” Jack Dylan Grazer, who plays Freddy, details his character, “Freddy is a superhero fanatic. So when he finds out that Billy is a superhero he’s like ‘I know exactly what to do.'”

Director David F. Sandberg also chimes in, “Freddy is like, ‘Okay we are going to test your abilities’ and of course they are going to film it.”

As for what we can expect Shazam to do once he acquires his powers, Grazer elaborates, “I feel like any kid who gains the power of being an adult is going to do things that only adults can do, duh!”

Levi cuts to the heart of who Shazam is, “Shazam is one of very few superhero characters that is genuinely stoked to be a superhero. More often than not you’ve got a character who is begrudgingly pulled into this and everybody needs them and they’re like, ‘Oh, I have to save the world again.’ Billy Batson is stoked. I just get to show up on set and be like ‘I get to do this? I get to fly around and fight bad guys?'”

The clip is filled with hilarious moments showcasing that Sandberg and the cast really get just who Shazam is. My expectations for this film are mounting and it might be the sleeper hit of the year. Aquaman might be the highest grossing DC film right now, but I wouldn’t count Shazam out.

Shazam hits theaters on April 5, 2019.
