A new report reveals that Disney will be developing a new series based on their iconic villains for the Disney+ streaming service.
Variety describes the series:
“It will tell the origin stories of Disney characters like Ursula from “The Little Mermaid,” The Beast from “Beauty and the Beast,” Maleficent from “Sleeping Beauty,” and the Wicked Queen from “Snow White.””
The Villains book series featured Ursula, The Beast, Maleficent, Queen Grimhilde or the Evil Queen from Snow White, and Mother Gothel, the villain from Tangled and the classic Rapunzel story. The books are all highly rated on Amazon.
One can only imagine that these will not be the only villains showcased in the series. I wouldn’t be surprised if the show also features Hook, Prince John, the Queen of Hearts, and Jafar, who are all featured in the popular Villainous board game from Wonder Forge. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Scar given his popularity is sure to soar once again following the upcoming Lion King film. And with the Beast already being featured, it’s not too much a stretch to imagine Gaston showing up.
Other popular Disney villains that might appear could be Cruella de Vil and Madame Medusa.
The series will be written by Michael Seitzman. He will also produce under Maniac Productions alongside ABC Signature Studios.
If this report is true, the show will join the Star Wars live-action shows The Mandalorian and a Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor. Disney is also developing at least one Marvel Cinematic Universe show centered around Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. There are also rumors of a Scarlet Witch show as well as a series focused on Winter Soldier and Falcon.
Disney+ will also feature a rebooted High Fidelity series starring Zoë Kravitz. A High School Musical series as well as a Monster’s Inc. project have been confirmed. Recent reports also indicate that Gina Rodriguez will star in Diary of a Female President.
