A new report indicates Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

The Irish Post reports, “Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy is being tipped to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond when the actor vacates the role after the next 007 outing.”

The Irish Post adds that Murphy would be the second Irishman to play the role. Pierce Brosnan is currently the only Irishman to play James Bond.

Murphy’s gradually been building his profile. He barely lost out on the role to play Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. However, he would join the film as Scarecrow and bring terror to Gotham in Batman Begins. He would then sit as a judge after Bane and Talia al Ghul took over the city in Dark Knight Rising.

Maybe his biggest claim to fame is his leading role as World War I veteran turned gangster Thomas Selby in Peaky Blinders.

Murphy also starred in Inception and 28 Days Later as well as Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

While the Irish Post claims Murphy is being “tipped” to play James Bond, they also hedge that he might not get the role as they go on to cite Murphy’s odds of becoming Bond as 100:30 according to Betway.

“Cillian Murphy is the latest name to be linked with the next James Bond role and with the new season of Peaky Blinders just around the corner, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see his current 100/30 shorten even more,” said Betway’s Alan Alger.

He added, “He’s stood as a quietly fancied 7/1 shot over the past few months but his odds have more than halved this morning and is now no bigger than 100/30. Only current market leaders Richard Madden and Tom Hiddleston, both 2/1, are higher up the pecking order.”

Do you think Cillian Murphy would make a good James Bond?
