Namor Rumored to Appear in Black Panther 2 or Doctor Strange 2

A new rumor indicates that one of Marvel’s most popular antiheroes and sometimes X-Men, Namor, will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in either Black Panther 2 or Doctor Strange 2.

This new rumor comes from We Got This Covered who says their source tells them, “The Sub-Mariner is expected to cameo in either Black Panther 2 or Doctor Strange 2.” They don’t provide any more details.

However, Doctor Strange 2 director Scott Derrickson did hint that Namor might appear in the movie when he tweeted out an image of Doctor Strange struggling to breath as Namor raced up behind him. Derrickson simply asked, “Are You Experienced?” The director has since deleted the tweet.

The image is from the 2011 comic book series [easyazon_link identifier=”B00ZNXX00Q” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Fear Itself: The Deep[/easyazon_link]. The series was written by comic book veteran and horror expert Cullen Bunn with art by Lee Garbett.

Here’s the official description of the series:

“Namor is targeted for death by one of the hammer-wielding Worthy and this is a battle no one hero can survive! With the X-Men under siege from a shocking foe and all hope seemingly lost, the Sub Mariner finds an ally in his old friend Dr. Strange. Can Strange recruit a team powerful enough to keep the seas safe from the spread of fear and chaos gripping the world? If he can’t, there may just not be any hope for the rest of the Marvel Universe!”

The book was part of the [easyazon_link identifier=”B00AAJQZTG” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Fear Itself[/easyazon_link]crossover written by Matt Fraction with art by Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger, and Laura Martin. The crossover saw Marvel’s heroes combating the Serpent, an Asgardian fear deity who creates a global panic on Earth in an attempt to reclaim the throne of Asgard.

Doctor Strange writer C. Robert Cargill had revealed last March that Nightmare would be the villain in Doctor Strange 2.

Nightmare was once the servant of the being known as Shuma-Gorath. However, he realized he was much too powerful to be a mere servant and he fled Shuma-Gorath by entering the Dream Dimension. He quickly took over the dimension and rapidly grew in power eventually becoming dependent on the fear he caused in order to survive.

Nightmare

It’s not hard to imagine Nightmare could act as a stand-in for the Serpent as both have powers based on fear. It’s possible Derrickson might have been hinting at an adaptation of the series or at least indicating he’s drawing inspiration from the story.

As for Namor showing up, Marvel boss Kevin Feige hinted that Namor might make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future, but he hadn’t made a decision on if he would show up or when.

And given Warner Bros. has already introduced a horror element to their underwater kingdoms with the Trench, it definitely wouldn’t surprise me to see Marvel Studios do the same.

Do you want to see Namor show up in Black Panther 2 or Doctor Strange 2? Or would you rather him get his own movie?
