Kevin Feige Confirms Focus of Avengers: Endgame Will Not Be on Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed that Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers would not be the focus of Avengers: Endgame, after he stoked fears among the fanbase when he declared she would be the new face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward.

Feige spoke to Empire Magazine to emphasize the focus on Avengers: Endgame would be on the original six Avengers:

“People would point out that that Cap wasn’t in Infinity War a whole lot. And Iron Man didn’t really speak for that last half hour because of what was going on. But those characters, and all of the original six, are very much the focus of Endgame in a very personal and emotional way.”

Given Feige’s way with words lately and how he has constantly been saying Larson was excited about playing Captain Marvel despite video evidence confirming she didn’t even know who the character was, fans were going to need a little more reassurance than Feige.

Enter longtime Marvel Cinematic Universe writer Christopher Markus. Markus has worked on all of the Captain America movies as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Markus makes it clear that it has always been about Captain America for him.

“(Cap’s) been our guy since we started at Marvel. He’s the barometer for the team. You go look for Captain America and if he’s still fighting, you keep fighting. But if he’s sitting on his butt in the dirt, saying, ‘Oh God,’ that really, really means you lost.”

And Cap doesn’t give up no matter who he’s fighting.

We’ll see what really happens in Avengers: Endgame when it hits theaters on April 26, 2019. Will Captain Marvel outshine the Avengers who have spent more than 10 years building up to the final battle with Thanos? Or will the original Avengers be the beating heart of this film as they work together with new and old allies to find a way to defeat the Mad Titan?
