Report: Disney Shuts Down Fox 2000 After Officially Acquiring 21st Century Fox

Earlier this week, Disney officially announced they had acquired 21st Century Fox, and they are already making some significant changes, which includes the reported shuttering of Fox 2000.

In a report from Deadline, Disney will reportedly shut down the Fox 2000 label run by Elizabeth Gabler. Deadline reports their sources say the “division will cease after The Woman in the Window, the Joe Wright-directed thriller that stars Amy Adams and Gary Oldman.” However, Variety reported that Gabler will stay with Fox 2000 through the completion of her film slate, but did not go into specifics.

Fox 2000 is known for films like Fight Club, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Walk the Line, Man on Fire, Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me, Hidden Figures, and The Fault In Our Stars.

Fox 2000 is not the only cut being made following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Variety reports that Fox’s domestic distribution chief Chris Aronson, president of product strategy and consumer business development Mike Dunn, worldwide theatrical marketing president Pam Levine, and chief content officer Tony Sella were all let go. They also report that the Century City lot was “hit first and hit hard – more than a dozen senior executives were cut.”

Those who were laid off will reportedly get “generous severance packages.” They won’t be the only ones being laid off according to reports. These lay offs, which happened primarily in the film division are merely a “precursor to more job losses.” More layoffs are expected in Fox’s television properties.
