Godzilla: King of the Monsters Director Mike Dougherty Approves of Godzilla and Star Wars Crossover: “Take My Money”

Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Mike Dougherty emphatically approved of a Godzilla and Star Wars crossover telling fans to “take my money.”

Dougherty simply tweeted out, “Take my money.”

Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters will stomp into box offices this summer with Godzilla facing one of his most fearsome opponents in King Ghidorah, a being from beyond Earth. Depending on how Godzilla fares against King Ghidorah, it’s possible he might soon face a new opponent in the Galactic Empire led by Emperor Palpatine and its fearsome enforcer Darth Vader.

An image shared by Tim Lyon shows Godzilla blasting a Star Destroyer out of the as multiple tie fighters attack the mammoth kaiju. While Godzilla, might have made short work of the Star Destroyer, Darth Vader prepares to face the beast with his red lightsaber drawn.

While it’s unlikely that a Godzilla and Star Wars crossover will ever happen, it’s possible that we might see something similar in an upcoming Star Wars film, TV show, or animated series. The Star Wars universe is ever expanding and is home to some of the most outlandish creatures including the Rancor, which was famously imprisoned in Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine and used to execute those who got on Jabba’s bad side. In Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker faces down the fearsome beast and ultimately comes out victorious, despite being captured after the encounter. It’s not too farfetched to see a Jedi or Sith take on a monstrous creature that is inspired by Godzilla.

In fact, Star Wars has even introduced force powers that allow Jedi to control animals and creatures. In Star Wars Rebels while fighting the Grand Inquisitor, Ezra summons a monstrous beast to attack the Inquisitor and his Stormtroopers. The Grand Inquisitor can be seen fighting the creature in the background and is ultimately able to scare it off, but not before Kanan and Ezra are able to make their escape.

Can you imagine a Jedi riding atop a monstrous Kaiju like Godzilla to take the fight to the First Order, the Galactic Empire, or even the Mandalorians? It would be pretty awesome!

Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters on May 31st. It stars Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe, and Kyle Chandler. Star Wars Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th. It stars Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, and John Boyega.

Would you want to see a Godzilla and Star Wars crossover? Would you want to see Star Wars incorporate more Godzilla-inspired kaiju into their universe?
