Rumor: Ezra Miller Is Not Coming Back as The Flash

Just when we thought Ezra Miller wasn’t giving up, a rumor comes down that he is done with trying to make a Flash solo movie happen. A source close to We Got This Covered is claiming that to be the case, adding Miller’s departure boils down to creative differences.
Earlier, it came out that Miller intended to stay on and was teaming up with Grant Morrison to write the script for a solo Flash movie. Their vision would have been for something darker – in keeping with a Snyder-esque path for the character.
Warner Bros. and directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, on the other hand, are said to favor a brighter, more jovial tone that is being compared to the first Back to the Future which sounds like they are keen on time travel as a plot device. It’s thought Miller and Morrison planned on using that in their movie, a la Flashpoint.
Yet again, we hear of a twist hearkening for the Snyder way of doing things. Zack Snyder wanted to expand on Barry’s ability to zip into the past and influence things. Batman v Superman gave us an ambiguous glimpse of this that would’ve played out in the future where Darkseid conquered the Earth and gained control over Superman’s mind.
Miller and Morrison’s rumored co-written screenplay seems to be a last-ditch effort to allow the actor to stay a part of the project – on the condition Warner accepted it. If the studio declines, Miller is truly finished when his contract runs out in May.
Miller did discuss his vision for the Flash back in February, saying in part:
“We are talking about sparking a whole new universe, which is not just the DC Multiverse. It’s also, it’s the Speedster Multiverse. And the Speedsters are the ones who connect all of the disparate pieces. Because Marvel is a universe, just one world and all the same characters in it. DC is a multiverse. All these different stories with different realities, different characters, and different versions of characters, and the Speedsters are the ones who move through it all. They are like the connecting bridge between all these different collaged parts.”
Seeing as he is committed to two other film projects, and Daley and Goldstein reportedly moved onto something else, odds are we aren’t getting a Flash movie in the next few months regardless of what’s really going on.
