Warner Bros. Box Office Expectations for Pokemon Detective Pikachu Revealed!

Pokemon Detective Pikachu is less than a week away from hitting the box office, and we’ve got Warner Bros.’ box office expectations for the Ryan Reynolds starring flick.

Our source tells us that Pokemon Detective Pikachu is expected to bring in $40 million in its opening weekend and $100 million in its box office run.

Those expectations are significantly lower than predictions that have the film bringing in $75 million on opening weekend. Box Office Pro had predicted the film would bring in $75 million on opening weekend due to strong social media buzz. They noted that the first trailer for the film broke their “internal Twitter tracking record with 400,000+ mentions the day of release.”

With expectations set low, it’s quite possible Detective Pikachu will be a rousing success. If the film is able to bring in $75 million on opening weekend it would already be three quarters of the way to the film hitting their entire domestic goal. It could mean thoughts for a sequel or even spin-off Pokemon films might already be brewing at the studio.

The film is getting mixed critic reviews. It currently has a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 50 on Metacritic.

Pokemon Detective Pikachu will hit theaters on May 10th with early shows happening on Thursday, May 9th at 4 p.m. local time.

The film will be 104 minutes long. It stars Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu, Justice Smith as Tim Goodman, Kathryn Newton as Lucy Stevens, Bill Nighy as Howard Clifford, and Ken Watanabe as Lieutenant Hide Yoshida.
