Petition Created for HBO to Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with “Competent Writers”

A petition has been created for HBO to remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with “competent writers.”

The petition created by Dylan D. on Change.org simply states:

“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.

This series deserves a final season that makes sense.

Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

The petition has already been signed by nearly 118,000 people.

Dugan Corsolini writes, “I don’t want these two anywhere near Star Wars, either. This was abysmal.”

Georgi Coggins writes, “I unfortunately I had to watch this shit to know it needs redoing.”

I’ve made my own opinion rather clear on the topic following the Battle of Winterfell, where I compared Season 8 to Star Wars: The Last Jedi in how the season failed to stay true to the Game of Thrones universe and its characters.

Given the reputation Game of Thrones Season 8 is quickly gathering, it could spell doom for Disney and Lucasfilm as they’ve placed their chips behind the two Game of Thrones writers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.

Disney recently announced three new Star Wars films following Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and scuttlebutt indicates these films will be helmed by Weiss and Benioff.

In fact, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy noted the two Game of Thrones writers would be essential to the next decade of Star Wars storytelling.

“We’re not just looking at what the next three movies might be, or talking about this in terms of a trilogy. We’re looking at: What is the next decade of storytelling?”

She added:

“As they finish Game of Thrones, they’re going to segue into Star Wars. They’re working very closely with Rian.”
