Exclusive: Disney’s Box Office Expectations for Aladdin

Our source has come through again. We’ve got the exclusive on what Disney’s box office expectations for Aladdin are.

Our source tells us that Disney is expecting the live-action remake of Aladdin from Guy Ritchie to bring in $70 million its opening weekend. They also expect the film to gross $175 million during its domestic box office run.

Those expectations are in line with Box Office Pro’s long-range predictions. They indicated the film will gross between $70 and $95 million during its 3-day opening weekend and between $85 and $115 million in its 4-day opening weekend.

Those numbers are actually a little shocking to me. Especially if you look at how well the original animated film did. Box Office Mojo reports that Aladdin’s opening weekend back in 1992 grossed $19.2 million. However, it would go on to earn over $217.3 million at the domestic box office and $504 million at the global box office.

Our source had previously revealed to us the film’s runtime as well as when tickets would go on sale. The film will be 129 minutes long. And tickets went on sale on April 29th. There is a slight change in the film’s rating. Previously, our source indicated the film would have a PG-13 rating, but they are now indicating it has been downgraded to PG.

We did get one last tidbit from our source. There will be early show times for Aladdin beginning on Thursday, May 24th at 6 p.m. local time.

Here’s the official description of the film:

“A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.”

Aladdin is directed by Guy Ritchie. The film stars Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, and Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders.
