All of Marvel’s Upcoming Movies and Disney+ Shows

Take a look at all the confirmed, rumored, and speculated Marvel Studios TV shows and movies coming up. Besides this list, there are many shows coming via Marvel Television, like the new season of Freeform’s “Cloak & Dagger” and Hulu’s “Helstrom” and “Ghost Rider.” However, we are focusing solely on the upcoming Marvel Studios slate.

Several exciting shows are coming to the Disney+ platform, debuting this fall. Starting November 12th, Disney+ is going to be the go-to place for all things Marvel. Here’s how the new shows play out, according to Deadline. Sadly, none will be available to watch at Disney+’s launch, meaning viewers will have to wait in order to dive in.

Confirmed Disney+ Shows

The Falcon and the Winter Solider

Both Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their roles in this live-action. It is titled as “The Falcon,” but it’s possible after the events of Endgame the show could discuss the repercussion of Mackie’s Sam Wilson taking on the mantle of Captain America. Kari Skogland has recently been selected to direct all six episodes. It is also rumored that Emily VanCamp and Daniel Brühl will reprise their roles as Sharon Carter and Helmut Zemo, respectively. It is also thought to be released August 2020.  Release: Year One

Loki

Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role for this live action show. While Loki was seemingly killed for good by Thanos in Infinity War, we did see a past version in Endgame potentially create a new split timeline with the use of the Tesseract. The new timeline could be the setting for the Disney+ show, allowing us to potentially see versions of scenes where Loki wasn’t there originally, much like the time travel sequences in Endgame. Release: Year Two

WandaVision

Both Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany will reprise their roles for this live action show. According to Olsen, it is set in the “1950’s” and the series will be six hours long. It will be interesting to see how they revive Vision after his death in Infinity War, either tying into the new multiverse theory or expanding on Wanda’s powers. They could also toy again with time travel. There’s also the possibility of Scarlet Witch using her powers to create an alternate reality similar to the House of M storyline. Release: Year Two

Marvel’s What If..?

This is the first animated show produced by Marvel Studios. While considered non-canonical, it is based off of the comic book series that explores how important moments of Marvel history could have happened differently. Release: Year One

Rumored Shows

There are three rumored live action shows to be in production right now, none of which Marvel has confirmed or mentioned anything definitively, despite what insider sources say.

Hulk

The first concerns Hulk and, potentially, She-Hulk. According to We Got This Covered, Mark Ruffalo will star in this series before the series shifts focus to She-Hulk as Mark Ruffalo is almost done with Marvel. Universal still holds the rights to Hulk so it might take a while for this show to make an appearance.

In the comics, She-Hulk is named Jennifer Walters, a lawyer by trade, who is Bruce Banner’s cousin. Unlike his Gamma Ray accident, Walters became She-Hulk after a blood transfusion from her cousin after she was injured in a drive-by shooting.

Hawkeye

Similar to the Hulk show, Hawkeye’s will be about him passing on the mantle of the Avenger’s archer to Kate Bishop. Endgame significantly hinted at a new archer taking up the reigns, especially as we saw Barton transition to his Ronin personality. Jeremy Renner is set to come back and reprise his role, but no one has been cast for Kate Bishop yet.

In Endgame, the girl Barton was training was his own daughter Lila, played by Ava Russo, daughter of Joe Russo. While her appearance could just be a nice cameo for the director’s daughter, it has potential to set up the new Hawkeye series quite nicely.

Lady Sif

The last rumored TV show is about Asgard’s Lady Sif. The show is supposedly about Lady Sif’s banishment from Asgard and her adventures during that time, supposedly joined by Beta Ray Bill.

The last we saw of Lady Sif, she was banished from Asgard by Loki disguised-as Odin. Her banishment allowed her to survive the events of Thor: Ragnarok. Marvel has confirmed that the Disney+ show about Loki, so it is possible Lady Sif could tie-in to that. The show also allows for Beta Ray Bill to be introduced before his rumored appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. His visage was seen on the Grandmaster’s coliseum in Thor: Ragnarok and Marvel seems eager to include him in the MCU.

Upcoming Movies

Disney recently confirmed their Marvel line-up through 2022. They offer no insight to what sequels or standalone films are coming, but John Campea offered what dates belong to what movies. It is just a rumor, but Campea did first say that the Rian Johnson Star Wars trilogy was dead. That rumor has not officially come true, but Disney did indicate the next three Star Wars movies on their slate will be helmed by Game of Thrones’ D.B. Weiss and David Benioff.  Another rumor has recently surfaced which contradicted some of Campea’s dates. Those are listed second.

Spider-Man: Far From Home: July 2, 2019

Untitled Marvel movie: May 1, 2020 – Black Widow

  • Both Campea and the unnamed leak agree on May 1 as the Black Widow movie. This movie is rumored to be a prequel, set 5 or 6 years before Iron Man. Given her character’s recent death in Endgame, a prequel is the only way to still green-light a solo movie without reversing a major plot point of Endgame. Due to the time period, this movie pre-dates the entire MCU (for the exception of Captain Marvel). Steve Rodgers is frozen in the ice, but a pre-Iron Man Tony Stark could make a nice background cameo. It is rumored that the Winter Solider will make an appearance, and who knows, maybe we’ll find out what happened in Budapest?

Untitled Marvel movie: Nov. 6, 2020 – Doctor Strange 2 or The Eternals

Untitled Marvel movie: Feb. 12, 2021 – The Eternals or Blank Panther 2

  • Richard Madden is rumored to play Ikaris for this movie. He is going to star alongside Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani in this new team movie. Disney might fast-track this movie, so it is possible that it will be bumped to a 2020 release date.

Untitled Marvel movie: May 7, 2021 – Black Panther 2 or Shang-Chi

Untitled Marvel movie: Nov. 5, 2021 – Shang-Chi or Doctor Strange 2

  • Director Destin Daniel Cretton has reportedly been “tapped” for this movie. It is set to modernize the story and character arc. A popular rumor is that the real Mandarin, teased after All Hail the King, could make an appearance.

Untitled Marvel movie: Feb. 18, 2022 – Guardians of the Galaxy 3 or Captain Marvel 2

  • Contrary to popular belief, the production is now not on an indefinite hold after firing, then re-hiring, director James Gunn. A popular rumor indicates that Beta Ray Bill will make an appearance alongside Adam Warlock, supposedly played by Zac Efron.

Untitled Marvel movie: May 6, 2022 – Captain Marvel 2 or New Avengers

  • The brand new rumor has claimed the existence of a brand-new, stand-alone movie, titled the New Avengers. The first hint of this rumor cropped up back in January and claims audiences will be meet a whole new cast of characters. As most of the Avengers’ contacts begin to expire, we might be meeting characters such as Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye, Hulkling, Iron Lad, Patriot, Wiccan, Stature, and Vision (not the Paul Bettany version). This movie could replace the rumored Avengers 5. Any of the characters could be introduced via the new Disney+ shows.

Untitled Marvel movie: July 29, 2022 – The Avengers 5 or Ant-Man 3

  • Neither of these movies have much information attached to them. As Ant-Man 2 was so successful, it is natural to get another sequel, just like Captain Marvel 2.

As seen in the new Spiderman trailer, Phrase 4 will likely involve the multiverse. It will be interesting to see which are these movies are “core MCU” and which are new multiverse MCUs. I guess we’ll just have to mark our calendars and wait. What movie you are most excited to see and how do you think Phrase 4 is going to play out?
