Report: Crew Member Stabbed in Neck on Set of Anne Hathaway’s The Witches

A crew member was reportedly stabbed in the neck on the set of Anne Hathaway’s remake of Roald Dahl’s The Witches.

According to the Daily Mail, the stabbing occurred at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, Hertfordshire. The stabbing allegedly occurred during a brawl between two crew members on set.

A police spokeswoman for Hertfordshire police released the following statement indicating that the victim was taken to a hospital via ambulance and his attacker was arrested.

“Police were called at around 12.35pm yesterday (Wednesday, June 19) to reports of an incident at Warner Bros studio production facility in Leavesden.

One man, in his 40s, sustained a small laceration to his neck and was taken to hospital by ambulance. He was released later that evening following treatment.

A second man, who is 54, was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and released on bail until Wednesday, July 17.

The men are known to each other. Enquiries are continuing at this time to establish the full circumstances around what happened.'”

The Daily Mail reports that the man was stabbed with a Stanley knife, and they report the fight broke out after one of the workers “pinched the other’s teabag.”

One source told the Daily Mail, “We’ve heard that it was a fight between a stagehand and a rigger. This is a very big production and very embarrassing for Warner Bros. Things can get quite heated on set but I’ve never known of anything like this to happen in all the years that I’ve been involved in the industry.”

Warner Bros. declined to comment because the matter is currently a police investigation.

The Witches comes from director Robert Zemeckis and stars Anna Hathaway as the Grand High Witch. The film will also star Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, and Chris Rock.

Dahl’s [easyazon_link identifier=”014241011X” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]The Witches[/easyazon_link] was previously adapted to live action by director Nicolas Roeg in 1990. The film starred Angelica Huston as the Grand High Witch.

The book published in 1983 takes place in Norway and the United Kingdom and showcases a society of child-hating witches that secretly exist throughout the world. The story sees the Grand High Witch, who rules the other witches, arrive in England and hatches her most diabolical plan yet. However, a former witch hunter and her young grandson set out to foil her plans.

The Witches is currently in production and is set for an October 16th, 2020 release.
