Disney’s Toy Story 4 Fails to Meet Expectations at Opening Weekend Box Office!

Disney’s Toy Story 4 failed to meet expectations for the film’s opening weekend box office haul in North America.

The latest film in the franchise brought in an estimated $118 million at the domestic box office. However, Disney was expecting the film to bring in $170 million.

While the film failed to meet Disney’s box office expectations, it is still the highest grossing opening weekend in the Toy Story franchise. Toy Story 3 was the previous record holder opening with $110.3 million. Toy Story 4 also had the third highest opening weekend in 2019 behind Avengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel.

The low opening weekend could put a big damper on Disney’s overall expectations for Toy Story 4. They were expecting the film to earn $500 million. That number might be out of reach given Toy Story 3 only grossed $415 million in its lifetime at the box office.

It is possible that the film could have some staying power. The film has an insanely high critic score on Rotten Tomatoes with 98%. It also has a high audience score. The All Audience score is 94% while the Verified Score currently sits at 95%. The film fares significantly poorer on Metacritic with a critic score of 84 and a user score at 8.4.

However, given how this summer has shaped up, those lights might be dimming as it seems every week a newly released film either bombs at the box office or fails to meet expectations. We’ve already seen it happen to Men In Black International, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and Shaft.

Have you seen Toy Story 4? Why do you think the film failed to meet expectations? Do you think we will continue to see big box office blunders as the summer continues?
