Rumor: Warner Bros. To Replace Barry Allen with Wally West for Flash Solo Film

Another rumor related to the fate of a Flash solo film starring Ezra Miller has surfaced and it adds further speculation to Miller indeed being done as the Scarlet Speedster before he began.

We Got This Covered and the site’s anonymous sources are saying Warner Bros., if they go ahead with the Flash movie, might have their heart set on using another character who harnesses the Speed Force to fight crime as The Fastest Man Alive: that being Wally West.

Wally would take the place of Barry, as he did in the comics for several years following [easyazon_link identifier=”1563897504″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Crisis on Infinite Earths[/easyazon_link], and allow for a new actor without recasting. WGTC stressed this is strictly an idea being kicked around for now.

Ezra Miller has only played Barry Allen twice so far in the DC Extended Universe — in Justice League and for a spell in Suicide Squad. The contract with the studio reportedly came up in May.

His future in doubt, Miller sought to write his own script with Grant Morrison that was darker in tone, thought to be a last-ditch effort to stay attached, and further leading to the belief there was a conflict between him and the directors — the creative team of Spider-Man: Homecoming writers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.

Ezra Miller Flash

The Flash, like The Batman, has been subject to delays though there was a report it could start filming in November. Other reports say the studio is working around Ezra Miller’s schedule and won’t proceed until he is done shooting Fantastic Beasts 3.

In addition, the wait, according to Miller, has to do with taking enough time and care into making the best superhero movie possible since the movie will juggle a number of ideas pertinent to the franchise — including time travel and the “Speedster Multiverse.”

These concepts were already explored on The CW’s Flash series and could be used as a convenient way to introduce Wally in the movies, where he’s not yet established. Played by Keiynan Lonsdale, West was introduced on the show and almost immediately made a metahuman. He’s been a popular fixture in the DC Animated-verse for decades.

Again, this is a rumor. No word of a split between parties has come from either studio reps or Miller’s people.
