Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic Scores Revealed for Spider-Man: Far From Home

Both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic have revealed their critic scores for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home film starring Tom Holland.

Rotten Tomatoes

The Rotten Tomatoes critic score currently sits at 90% on the Tomatometer from 111 reviews.

Here’s what the critics are saying:

David Ehrlich at IndieWire gives the film a C. He writes, “The Spider-Man we find at the end of the movie is no different than the one we met at the start…you can’t help but feel like he could have learned all of the same things without leaving Queens or wasting our time.”

David Sims at The Atlantic gives the film a “Fresh” rating. He writes, “A bouncy addition to a bulging franchise, with just enough fringe zaniness to help it stand out from the pack.”

Justin Chang at the Los Angeles Times gives the film a “Fresh” rating. He writes, “”Far From Home,” for all its dazzle and speed, has simpler, humbler aspirations and fulfills them well enough.”

Oliver Jones at Observer gives the film a 2/4. He writes, “If Spider-Man Far from Home is a triumph, as many will argue and its box office will undoubtedly confirm, it is a triumph of capitalism, not art.”

Peter Howell at Toronto Star gives the film a 2.5/4. He writes, “Spider-Man: Far From Home finds Tom Holland agreeably continuing as the most boyish Spidey yet, even as the film risks fan fury by spinning unfamiliar webs.”

Cono O’Donnell at The Film Stage gives the film a C+. He writes, “The loose ends of Phase 3 prove cumbersome, and it’s forced to contort several plot threads into a clumsy narrative.”

Grace Randolph at Beyond the Trailer gives the film a “Fresh” rating. She says, “Spectacular next chapter after Endgame! Packed full of fun surprises plus a great turn by Jake Gyllenhaal, and Sony brings some edge & artistic boldness to the Marvel mix.”

Neil Pond at Parade Magazine gives the film a 3.5/5. He writes, “Even though he’s now 23, Holland still manages to convey the youthful angst of one of Marvel’s most popular characters as he grows into the responsibilities that go with his sticky superpowers.”

Nell Minow at Movie Mom gives the film a B+. She writes, “This one made my Spidey-sense tingle.”

Metacritic

The Metacritic critic score, Metascore, is considerably lower than Rotten Tomatoes. The film currently has a 70 from 34 critics with 23 positive and 11 mixed. There are 0 negative reviews.

Here’s what the critics are saying:

Tasha Robinson at The Verge gives the film a 92. She writes, “It’s an out-and-out triumph, an adrenaline blast of pure action and emotion that lives up to its predecessors and ably forwards the MCU story in memorable and even touching ways.”

Mike Ryan at Uproxx gives the film a 90. He writes, “Spider-Man: Far From Home is a heck of a lot of fun. And I can’t get over how great of a Mysterio movie this is.”

Jim Vejvoda at IGN gives the film an 88. He writes, “Spider-Man: Far From Home is great fun, filled with heart, humor and lots of cool stuff for fans to geek out over.”

Alonso Duralde at TheWrap gives the film an 85. He writes, “If anything, and this is a compliment, the film frequently feels like a charming teen road-trip comedy that occasionally turns into a superhero movie.

Rodrigo Perez at The Playlist gives the film an 83. He writes, “Ultimately, Spider-Man Far From Home turns all its intelligent themes into a triumphant story of self-belief for Peter Parker.”

Mike Scott at the New Orleans Times-Picayune gives the film a 40. He writes, “Don’t get me wrong: Gyllenhaal is a great actor, one who exhibits a rare blend of strength and pathos. But not even he can elevate that kind of lazy writing.

Johnny Oleksinski at the New York Post gives the film a 50. He writes, “You can see director Jon Watts and the filmmakers struggling to replicate the magic of their first film. But its charm came not from an overabundance of jokes, but from turning Spidey into a school hallway hero whose biggest challenge was girls. Jetting off to Venice, Prague and London and busting up landmarks brings it more in line with the rest of the overly dense Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

Blake Goble at Consequence of Sound gives the film a 58. They write, “It’s a sequel full of more that still feels like less.”

Robbie Collin at The Telegraph gives the film a 60. He writes, “Spider-Man: Far From Home offers a breezy, Europe-set intermezzo between Avengers: Endgame and whatever is coming next – a kind of sorbet in blockbuster form to punctuate the binge.”
