Black Adam: Updates on Director and When He Might Clash with Shazam

Black Adam has been years in the making and finally heads toward a filming date sometime next year. Non-Stop and Commuter director Jaume Collet-Serra was recently announced is in talks to helm the project.
Cinema Blend caught up with producer Hiram Garcia to get further updates. Garcia gave high marks to Collet-Serra and his talent, calling him a favorite, adding:
“He’s an amazing visionary. And what we have in store with Black Adam and for the fans, I am so excited inside.”
Then Garcia admitted he brings his own fandom to his work:
“Inside, I take pride as being a fan boy. I started as a fan boy before I became a producer, so I hold onto that DNA.”
Garcia concluded by saying the two parties are closing in on an agreement and Collet-Serra is his man for the job. And he is confident fans will be happy:
“His vision for what we want to do with Black Adam is fantastic. So, that deal’s almost closed. He’s ready to go, and I think the fans are going to be really happy.”
Collet-Serra topped the list of potential directors after working with star Dwayne Johnson on Disney’s Jungle Cruise. His ability to blend action and collaborate reportedly sold Warner Bros. and Garcia at Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions.
Johnson is as excited as anyone, fan or otherwise, to get rolling on Black Adam. He has been attached for so many years and excited a place in the DC Extended Universe is being carved out for him.
Black Adam Vs. Captain Marvel
His inevitable encounter with Captain Marvel will have him waiting a little longer, however. The epic slugfest isn’t expected to take place anytime soon.
Shazam! star Zachary Levi said at CCXP Cologne convention it might take another two or three movies before the two meet. The battle, which is pivotal, has to be handled carefully:
“I can say that as far as I know, Black Adam is not going to be in the second Shazam!, because the idea is that they want to go and do a standalone Black Adam movie first. And then it would kind of be, if we do a third Shazam! and a second Black Adam, kind of [parallel] like that, that’s where we would [meet].”
Shazam! 2’s filming schedule is expected to coincide with Black Adam’s. They won’t be in theaters until at least 2021.
