Matrix 4 Confirmed With Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss

A fourth Matrix film with Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss has been confirmed.
An exclusive from Variety reveals Reeves and Moss will reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity. They will be joined by Lana Wachowski, who wrote the script alongside Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell. Wachowski will also be directing and producing the film.
Wachowski told Variety, “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
No details about the plot were revealed.
The film will be produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures. Warner Bros. Picture Group Chairman Toby Emmerich expressed his excitement about returning to the world of The Matrix, “We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana.” He added, “Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
It’s unclear how Reeves and Moss will reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity from a plot perspective. The ending of Matrix Revolutions did leave Neo’s return open-ended. When asked whether or not they will see Neo again, The Oracle responds, “I suspect so, someday.”
In fact, while Neo appeared to die within the Matrix, his body or at least his consciousness continued to live outside of it in the Machine City. It’s quite possible that Neo’s consciousness might have been uploaded into one of the machines.
However, Trinity died in Matrix Revolutions. It’s going to be a lot harder to bring her back.
The report from Variety is unclear if Laurence Fishburne will reprise his role as Morpheus. It does indicate that some of their sources tell them “the role may be recast for a younger take.”
