Star Wars and Indiana Jones Icon Harrison Ford: “Get The Hell Out Of” Young Climate Change Activists Way

Star Wars and Indiana Jones icon Harrison Ford appeared at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York where he called for world leaders to “get the hell out of” young climate change activists way.

The actor stumbled through his speech as his cue cards were out of order, but called for the protection of the Amazon rainforest.

Ford stated, “The world’s largest rain forest, the Amazon, is crucial to any climate change solution for its capacity to sequester carbon, for its biodiversity, for its fresh water, for the air we breather, for our morality. And it is on fire.”

In order to save the Amazon, Ford laid out a number of ideas, “We need to defund the mechanisms, the perverse tax subsidies, the lending policies, and the institutional investments that fuel deforestation.”

Ford added, “And without the Amazon, without securing the largest standing tropical forest in the world we can not achieve a climate solution and nothing else we do will matter.”

As he concluded his speech Ford declared:

“There’s a new force of nature at hand, stirring all over the world. They are the young people whom frankly we have failed, who are angry, who are organized, who are capable of making a difference. They are a moral army. The most important thing we can do for them is get the hell out of their way.”

Back in February, Ford also spoke climate change calling it the “greatest moral crisis of our time.” (Related: Star Wars and Indiana Jones Icon Harrison Ford Calls Climate Change “Greatest Moral Crisis of Our Time”)

At the World Government Summit in Dubai, Ford stated, “It’s up to you and me to act now, to face the greatest moral crisis of our time. To Take action. It is time to make a difference. It affects. Climate action now.”

Last September, Ford spoke at the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, where he also described climate change as “the greatest moral crisis of our time.” He also warned that “the future of humanity was at stake.”
