Amber Heard Protests Instagram’s Nudity Rules With Picture of Aquaman co-star Jason Momoa

Amber Heard, the Aquaman actress who is currently in an ongoing legal dispute with her husband Johnny Depp, uploaded an image of Jason Momoa edited on to a photo of herself to her personal Instagram account as means to stand against the company’s nudity policy.

Heard first took issue with the policy after an image of herself, shot for “a collaborative project” between Saint Laurent Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello and Interview magazine was removed from Instagram for violating the platform’s policy regarding inappropriate nudity.

The image featured Heard in a black suit jacket and pantyhose, the former remaining unbuttoned and providing the reader with a shot of Heard’s breasts:

The original image posted by Heard did not feature the black, heart-shaped emoji as a form of censorship.

In response to the image being deleted, Heard uploaded an alternative version of the same image, this time featuring her Aquaman co-star Jason Momoa in place of Heard through the use of digital editing.

She explained the point of using a photo of Momoa was to protest against the alleged hypocrisy of “IG’s rigorous and equitable Community Guidelines against showing the Female nipple.”

She added, “And since mine enjoyed the brief privilege that’s afforded to my male counterparts.. I decided to pay homage by replacing it with a picture that DID meet IG’s strict nudity guidelines and such careful gender policies.”

Heard would also apologize for the well-intentioned photoshop to her “Aquahubb” in the comments on the photo:

“Btw, love you AquaHubbs ! Sorry to use your pecs to make a point ! 💕”

Instagram’s policy regarding the display of female nipples is somewhat subjective, as the platform’s policy prohibits “photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks,” including “some photos of female nipples.”

“We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature, but for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity on Instagram. This includes photos, videos, and some digitally-created content that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks. It also includes some photos of female nipples, but photos of post-mastectomy scarring and women actively breastfeeding are allowed. Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK, too.”
