Shroud Explains Why He Ditched Twitch for Mixer

Yet another big streaming personality is leaving Twitch. Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek tweeted he is making the move from Twitch to Mixer:

His announcement comes just a couple of months after Tyler “Ninja” Blevins made his move to the platform.

Shroud is one of the biggest names on Twitch, boasting 7,070,017 followers, and nearly 365 million views.

A former professional CS: GO player, Shroud plays a variety of games on his channel. Shroud’s main specialty is shooters, as he has streamed Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, Apex Legends, Fortnite, and various Call of Duty games in the past.

The timing of his move suggests he is gearing up to be a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare streamer on Mixer. In fact, that was his first stream on Mixer.

No details of his contract have been released, but it is likely to be only for live content.

Grzesiek maintains an active YouTube channel and regularly uploads 15-20 minute highlight videos, so there’s no reason to think that won’t continue.

The move likely comes as a surprise to many of Shroud’s fans. Grzesiek originally saw Blevins’ departure as a chance for him to grow his own brand on Twitch.

“Hey man, Ninja’s gone,” he said during one of his streams back in August. “It’s all me, baby. Gotta take advantage.”

Shroud Explains His Move to Mixer

After making the move to Mixer and doing his first Call of Duty stream, Shroud explained why he made the move.

“I just thought it was the best move for my career, straight up,” he admitted, before revealing that he had some nerves ahead of his debut Mixer stream.

“I wasn’t nervous about the move, but I was nervous about being here (Mixer) for the first day, for some reason. After the first day, I’m chilling, but I just knew 100% this is it. This is my decision, this is the best decision, and I’m doing it, you know what I’m saying?”

He also addressed the fact that many had subscribed to him on Twitch ahead of the move, and pointed to Mixer’s free subs as a potential solution to the problem.

“At the end of the day, it’s my move,” he said to those asking about the subs. “I had to take that into account. You get a free sub on Mixer, so you get your Twitch sub back really.”

Shroud pulled great numbers in his stream debut according to Dexerto.

Despite some struggles getting into a lobby, he peaked at 78,000 viewers during his time on the brand new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

While playing Modern Warfare, he averaged an impressive 67,000 viewers, highlighting the interest in both shroud and Call of Duty.

Even before he played a moment of the game, he had over 240,000 followers on Mixer.

Following the stream, Shroud thanked his fans:

Tyler “Ninja” Blevins reacted to Shroud’s move to Mixer saying, “Shroud making the move to Mixer is seriously a massive move for the platform and the streaming industry. Excited to watch more of his streams!”

Mixer Making Moves

Similar to the statement “I’m making moves” in Shroud’s announcement, so is Mixer.

It appears that big name streamers looking to secure more brand opportunity are taking advantage of the generous contracts Mixer is handing out.

Mixer is still behind Twitch in overall numbers, but the gap may close as they sign more big names.

The Verge reports that “StreamElements in partnership with streaming analytics site Arsenal.gg, found that hours watched on Mixer jumped about 3 million in August, just after Blevins joined the platform.

In contrast Twitch saw its hours watched increase from 850.6 million to 932.1 million in the same time period.

However, according to Games Industry, Mixer saw a 10.6% decline in total hours watched during the third quarter despite seeing a total hours streamed increase by 188%.

In contrast, Twitch saw a 4.5% increase in total hours watched, but hours streamed did decline.

You can bet more big names will follow, as lucrative opportunities seem plentiful at Mixer.

The question is, who will be the next big name to make the jump? Stay tuned.
