Teaser Trailer Released for Star Trek Fan Film Axanar: The Gathering Storm

A teaser trailer was released for the Star Trek fan film, Axanar: The Gathering Storm.

They also released a separate teaser trailer titled “Starfleet Strong.”

Axanar tells the story of Starfleet captain Garth of Izar and his involvement in the Battle of Axanar, which as Captain Kirk tells it is required reading for all Starfleet Officers.

The Battle of Axanar takes place 21 years before the events of the episode “Where No Man Has Gone Before.” It sees Garth and his crew claiming victory in the Four Years War against the Klingon Empire and ensuring what the existence of the Federation during Captain Kirk’s command of The Enterprise.

The project began back in 2010, when writer and producer Alec Peters wrote the screenplay. He would go on to crowdfund a short film titled Prelude to Axanar starring Richard Hatch, Tony Todd, Kate Vernon, J.G. Hertzler, Gary Graham, and Alec Peters.

The short would be released in 2014 and has over 4.2 million views on YouTube.

After the success of Prelude to Axanar, Peters launched a new crowdfunding campaign to make a full length Axanar movie. In 2015, Axanar released their “Vulcan Scene.”

In December of 2015, Paramount Pictures and CBS filed a lawsuit against Axanar claiming they infringed on its rights to Star Trek. The two parties would eventually settle in 2017. They released a joint statement:

“Paramount Pictures Corporation, CBS Studios Inc., Axanar Productions, Inc. and Alec Peters are pleased to announce that the litigation regarding Axanar’s film Prelude to Axanar and its proposed film Axanar has been resolved. Axanar and Mr. Peters acknowledge that both films were not approved by Paramount or CBS, and that both works crossed boundaries acceptable to CBS and Paramount relating to copyright law.”

Axamonitor reported at the time that the settlement allows Peters to make “two 15-minute films that must adhere to the fan film guidelines announced by CBS in June 2016.” However, Axanar would still be allowed to employ actors that appeared in the Prelude to Axanar.
