Rumor: Warner Bros. Looking to Adapt Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ Kingdom Come

A new rumor indicates that Warner Bros. is looking to adapt Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ Kingdom Come on either HBO Max or The CW.

The rumor comes from Mikey Sutton, who writes, “Kingdom Come is moving closer to becoming a live-action adaptation on either HBO Max or the CW, perhaps as the next Greg Berlanti crossover.”

Sutton speculates that the series could spin out of the upcoming Infinite on Crisis Earths crossover on The CW. Brandon Routh, who played Superman in Superman Returns, was cast as the Kingdom Come Superman in the crossover.

Sutton writes:

“Brandon Routh was cast as the Kingdom Come Superman on Crisis shortly after the Lords announced the initial scoop, and most likely he will be the older Man of Steel in this version of the Mark Waid/Alex Ross epic.”

He also indicates that Captain Marvel aka Shazam who was previously banned from appearing in the project will now be able to appear.

However, Sutton indicates Zachary Levi who played Shazam! in the recent live-action film adaptation “is not expected to say Shazam! here as he’s in a different universe.”

Sutton details that DC will explore a number of characters in the show that have not been featured in live-action.

He explains, “The Spectre will play a huge role as well as the Alan Scott incarnation of Green Lantern and Power Girl.”

HBO Max and DC Comics

AT&T did announce that at least two DC Comics based TV shows from Greg Berlanti will appear on HBO Max.

Earlier this week HBO Max announced that Berlanti is working on a Green Lantern series as well as a Strange Adventures series. Variety reported that “both projects are expected to go to series.”

Berlanti described the two shows, “Both of these original DC properties we’ll be creating for HBO Max will be unlike anything seen on television.”

He added, “An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and, in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet.”

If this rumor pans out to be true, it’s possible we might see a Kingdom Come adaptation joining Strange Adventures and Green Lantern.
