Rumor: Matthew McConaughey up for Two-Face in The Batman

Matt Reeves is seeking out more Oscar-winning talent for his ensemble reboot of the Caped Crusader, The Batman. Reportedly, he has someone huge in mind to step into the shoes of Gotham District Attorney Harvey Dent.

According to the Daily Mail, Matthew McConaughey is being considered to play Dent and if the movie spins off into a trilogy, he will become Two-Face in the sequel.

Some digital art by John Regan (aka ShatterverseEnt on Twitter) showing what the Dazed and Confused star might look like as a scarred Harvey Two-Face surfaced online. Have a look:

Graphic artist Boss Logic also imagined McConaughey as Two-Face.

McConaughey won his Oscar for Dallas Buyer’s Club – the true story of an AIDS-stricken bull rider – also starring former Joker Jared Leto, who won a Best Supporting nod.

McConaughey has also been in thrillers such as The Lincoln Lawyer where he played an attorney defending petty criminals and a man charged with attempted murder. Two-Face and The Batman are a territory he is more than fit for.

Though the story comes from the Daily Mail, it’s considered a rumor at the moment. John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) is also reported as up for the role, but we haven’t heard anything new on that front in a few weeks.

Washington, son of the famous Denzel Washington, is much younger and would take Dent back to being a person of color for the first time since Billy Dee Williams and Batman ’89.

Matthew McConaughey isn’t the only rumored plan for Two-Face. Thanks to the success of Joker, Warner Bros. is in favor of doing more standalone villain films and Harvey Dent leads the pack among potential adaptations.

Harvey Dent was a straight-laced DA until half his face was scarred by mob boss Sal Maroni. In comics, his fate was sealed with acid, but it’s also happened because of explosions, as seen in The Dark Knight and Batman: The Animated Series. Driven mad, he became obsessed with chance and frequently winds up a patient at Arkham Asylum.

The Batman stars Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, and Jeffrey Wright. Also confirmed is Two-Face’s old partner in crime from Batman Forever, The Riddler, played by Paul Dano. The film comes out in June of 2021.
