Mark Hamill Tells Fan to Wait for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to Release on Cable

Star Wars icon Mark Hamill made no bones about it when he told one Star Wars fan to skip seeing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters and instead wait for it come out on cable.

Hamill responded to local Michigan news anchor Brent Ashcroft, who works for Disney’s ABC affiliate ABC 13. Ashcroft shared a photo of a number of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker tickets he had purchased. In his tweet he tagged Hamill stating, “This better be good, Mark Hamill! 32 tickets ain’t cheap!”

Hamill, who has routinely criticized the characterization of Luke Skywalker in Disney’s prequel trilogy responded, “Or you could wait til it comes to cable.”

Hamill’s tweet about skipping Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters comes shortly after rumors indicated there were multiple versions of the film created following terrible test screenings.

In fact, according to these rumors the test screenings were so bad on the original cut of the film that Disney CEO Bob Iger personally stepped in, in order to try and right the ship of Star Wars. And while his test screening fared better than the previous film, it was still met with rather lukewarm scores.

A third version of the film would be created with Disney bringing in George Lucas to create a “secret Skywalker.” This version was met with much better scores. It’s unclear which version Disney will go with, but the source of the rumor indicates Disney will more than likely go with George Lucas’ version of the film.

This isn’t the first time Hamill has taken aim at the Disney sequel trilogy. Back in September he shared one of his top Luke Skywalker quotes from J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Skywalker did not have any lines in the film. He simply turned around and took his hood off when Rey arrived on Ahch To.

Back in June, Hamill also expressed that he hopes this will be his last Star Wars movie. While on the red carpet for Child’s Play, where he voiced the new Chucky doll, Hamill was asked by the AP if this would be his last Star Wars appearance. He responded, “I sure hope so.”

When pressed on why, He explained, “Well, cause you know, I had closure in the last one, you know?”

He then hinted that Luke Skywalker will more than likely appear as a Force Ghost in The Rise of Skywalker:

“The fact that I’m involved in any capacity is only because of that peculiar aspect of the Star Wars mythology where if you are a Jedi, you get to comeback and make a curtain call as a Force Ghost.”

What do you make of Hamill’s recommendation to skip out on seeing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker at theaters? Will you take his advice? Do you think it was simply a joke?
